CLASSY PONTEFRACT DESTROY MILLERS IN THE WIND AT STOKE LANE!

CLASSY PONTEFRACT DESTROY MILLERS IN THE WIND AT STOKE LANE!

It was clear to see this afternoon why Pontefract are in the promotion mix and Carlton in the relegation mix.

Carlton had their moments, an early goal from Arron Opoku and a brilliant second half free kick from Ben Hutchinson (pictured above) made sure they were on the scoresheet, but there was little else to cheer about, in what was a painful afternoon for Carlton supporters, players and management.

Yes the gale force wind played a massive part in two of the first half Pontefract goals and Carlton were rightfully agreived with their 4th goal which looked clearly offside, but Pontefract were clearly the better side and deserved their compressive win which leaves them in a great position and Carlton looking in deep relegation trouble, particularly with Gresley winning away from home.

The gate was boosted to 103 by the appearance of pupils and parents from St John the Baptist School and the youngsters clearly enjoyed their afternoon, despite the heavy defeat for the home side and the club are grateful to councillor Nicki Brookes and headmaster Chris Belton for their support in what was a difficult afternoon for the home side.

Carlton move forward to their Senior Cup Semi Final on Wednesday night when they take on Kimberley at Stoke Lane and Manager Wayne Scott will have some work to do to lift spirits, after what was one of the heaviest defeats of his tenure at Carlton Town.
