LAST MINUTE GOAL FOR SHELTS LIFTS THE MOOD AT STOKE LANE !

Reece Bertram delivered on the big stage with an injury time equaliser to send the Carlton Town fans home happier, after it looked like the big day in which the club had renamed their seated stand “The Paul Shelton Stand” was going to end in a another home defeat once again by an odd goal.

“Shelts” as he was affectionately known would have been proud as his loved ones gathered for the opening of the stand and excellent speeches by Club President Roger Smith and Matchball Sponsor and special guest Councillor Paul Wilkinson.

Wilkinson teamed up with colleague Councillor Nicki Brookes to do the honours in unveiling a special tribute framed shirt and the renaming of the stand in what was an emotional afternoon at Stoke Lane.

The last ditch equaliser left the Carlton faithful wondering if Shelts had made one last contribution, particularly as the ball had gone into the net where his ashes are buried and next to the new stand. That question will probably never never be answered, but at least the Carlton fans left with a smile on their faces and a lasting legacy was firmly placed for a great man indeed !
