PENALTIES WIN FOR ACADEMY BUT FIRST TEAM DROP INTO BOTTOM TWO.

Carlton Towns Academy side continues to impress and after drawing 2-2 at Mossley in the second round of the league cup , they went on to win 3-2 on penalties with goalkeeper James Hobson the hero keeping out three spot kicks.

Carltons first team meanwhile lost 2-1 for the second game in a row and are now in deep relegation trouble, slipping into the bottom two after this latest home defeat to Spalding, which in effect was a six pointer with Spalding only just above the Millers before this defeat.

To add insult to injury, Spalding’s first goal from Hugo appeared to be a miskick which found the corner of the net and Reece Bertram was sent off late on to compound the Millers misery.

There could be no complaints regarding Spalding second goal however from Martin, which was a superb finish indeed and ensured Spalding’s revenge for their Fa Trophy defeat to Carlton earlier in the season.

Carlton huffed and puffed and Oliver Clark and Kylie Stovell were two of the few positives in another disappointing home performance and Motshweni did get on the scoresheet late on for Carlton, but it was like at Belper the previous Saturday, to little to late !

Carlton are back at Stoke Lane this coming Wednesday 20th February when they take on AFC Mansfield in the Quarter Final of the Notts Senior Cup and gate prices will be at the reduced rate of £6 Adults, £4 Concessions and £2 kids .
