Marston Thursday Night Five A-Side Fixtures
DRAW DOES IT FOR INTER !
In one of the most enthralling matches witnessed at stoke lane since the 5 a side league was launched, Intermilads went head to head with MSR Newsgroup needing just a draw to secure the title and a top quality 5 a side encounter followed.
Intermilads started the brighter but it was MSR who went in front with an excellent finish from the evergreen Ian White. Andy May brought a great save from the Inter Keeper and Brian Hickling went close for MSR who were now well on top but reed turned the game on its head with a speculative effort that the otherwise excellent Ashley Winfield allowed to squirm under his body. It was to prove costly!!
Intermilads defended for their lives in the second half and hit MSR on the break with pace hitting the post and forcing two great saves from Winfield but at the death it was Inters keeper who helped them secure the title with a fine block from Andy May and a brilliant save from John Hickling.
Inter celebrated with some passion at the end, they had deserved it and for once MSR had to make do with second place. LSM finished their league campaign with another win beating Beersoloner 3-1 while Sam, Brian and the Trent Concrete boys made a welcome return to the competition drawing 2-2 with Jeppo’s Harold Potter side who equalised with the last kick of the game in the cup.
Upsetters pulled off an excellent 4-2 win over Misfits in the other cup game, it was noticed that the Carlton Chairman was in a buoyant mood despite MSR’s draw. One thinks it was the return of Trent Concrete and a swelling of bar profits at the clubhouse sports bar.
INTERMILADS SET FOR TITLE ?
Intermilads made a stuuning start against L S M storming into a 5-1 lead with a fantastic first half display. L S M are a good side themselves however and came out of the blocks in the 2nd period with a few goals temselves and it finished 9-7 to Intermilads taking them top of the table. they now face M S R and need just a draw to take the title while M S R need a win.
M S R do not look at their best at the moment but had too much for Beersoloner in the cup who despite going into the lead went down 8-1. Upsetters are settling down with their new look side and had a good 5-2 win over Harold Potter.
