Quorn 0 v 8 Carlton Town
The millers visited Faraday road Quorn on Saturday looking to build on what has been a good season so far but few could of expected the game that was to follow. The game began with the visitors taking control and fiving the home side little time and space and the continued throughout the game. The glut of goals began on two minutes when a Terry Hawkridge corner was well saved by Nurse in the home goal only to be met by Matt Millns who fired home and as such the Millers into an early lead.Ashley Grayson scored just a few minutes later getting on the end of a Terry Hawkridge pass and slurring the ball under the advancing keeper, a great finish and an outstanding ball. In the following minutes Nurse in the home goal made three excellent saves showing some great quality only to be undone by Terry Hawkridge, Terry controlled the ball a full 50 yards from goal and seeing the keeper off his line he struck the ball home. The goal was very special and showed Hawkridges vision within the game and hopefully those watching something special for the afternoon. The remainder of the first half the first half showed commitment from the home side with just the odd lapse of concentration.Neil West who west deputising for Danny Marshall made several good saves during the game and on 35 minutes when a free swung in was meet by Kris Nurse and was held well by Neal West.On 45 minutes probably the best worked goal of the game fame from Ian Brown, Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas back healed the ball for Ashley Grayson whish created plenty of room for one of his trademark cross’s which fell to Ian Brown to score at the second time of asking. Having scored the 4th it was also Brown who scored the 5th after he got on the end of a scramble in the goal mouth and fired home. The second half was proving to be the Millers strongest period of the game and when Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas weaved his way into the box on 62 minutes the quality of the visitors and there goals where clear.Ian Brown scored his hat trick goal as he followed up a Sammy Mvicar effort and crash the ball home and leave the Millers 0-7 in front.Quorn must have wanted the game to finish by now and it was Sammy Mcvicar who took pity on the home side and completed the scoring, marching his was into the box and hammering one past Nusrse in the home net.The Millers moved top of the Evo Stick league south following the postponement of the game against Leek Town on goal difference.Next u[for the Millers is the long trip to Market Drayton Town next Saturday K.O 3pm
Carlton Town 7 v 1 Leek Town
Saturday afternoons visitors Leek Town beat the Millers on the opening day of the current season so Les Mcjannet and his charges where well up for the visit of the Staffordshire side.Carlton played the first half with a very strong wind at their backs and on 3 minutes this proved important as Terry Hawkridge crossed well for Ian Brown who climbed highest to miss by the closest of marginsIt was that wind again the assisted Rubbens Wiggins -Thomas on 12 minutes with Terry Hawkridge this time going close with his head.Leek Town opened the scoring on 18 minutes when Danny Marshall failed to clear a cross and the ever present leek number 7 fired the visitors in front. The Millers levelled the scoring on19 minutes when the league’s leading scorer Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas forced the ball home from an Ashley Kitchin cross, the second in as many seconds. On 25 minutes there seemed to be a claim for a penalty as Fletcher was brought down but the man with the cards waved play on.One of the standout players of the season so far has been Theo Smith and this continued as he crashed the crossbar from 18 yards on 30 minutes. It might be Wiggins Thomas at the top of the leagues scoring charts but Ian Brown is only twow behind him and he kept the pressure on his strike partner as he climbed highest to meet a quality cross from Ashley Grayson and put the Millers in front. The visitor’s keeper kept the Millers at bay on 60 minutes as he saved well down at his near posts.Despite the visitors best efforts the score line increased with Matt Millns scoring a trade mark header from a Terry hawkridge header. On 67 minutes the Millers increased the advantage with Ian Brown scoring from Theo Smith. Not to be outdone Rubbens Wiggins- Thomas scored his second goal of the afternoon on 70 minutes, immediately after his goal Wiggins- Thomas was replaced with severe cramp. On 82 minutes Danny Marshall made an exceptional double save to keep the scores as was, keeping matt Haddrell out twice.Carlton increased the lead to 6-1 when Ashley Grayson glanced a Terry Hawkridge cross over the top of the advancing keeper. On 90 minutes the scoring was complete with Ashley Grayson playing a cheeky back heel for Sammy Mcvicar fire home and complete the 7-1 route.Next up for the Millers is the visit to Quorn next Saturday at 3pm and before that there is a 12 hour darts marathon next Friday in sports bar which will see manager Mcjannet pit his arrows against the Teapot. If you can get down thoughout the day to help raise some money for the club and support the players that would be much appreciated.
Carlton Town 2 v 3 Newcastle Town
Carlton hosted there first home game of 2012 and the visitors where Newcastle Town from Staffordshire. The first chances fell to the Millers with both Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas and Ian Brown missing early chances for the home side. The visitors caused all sorts of trouble for the Millers back four and on the 16th minute a shot from Jack Harrison squirmed its way under Carlton keeper Marshall to give Newcastle the lead. There were few chances for the home side in the first half and that showed as Newcastle doubled their lead via a good shot from Kyle Diskin on 29 minutes. The half was full of over the top challenges and aggressive behaviour which went un punished by Ref Andrew Barney that is until he sent Robert Darkin off for a miss timed challenge leaving the Millers with an uphill battle in the second half. The second half kicked off with a re surgent Millers on the attack and early chances fell to Ashley Grayson and Nick Hall but to no avail. On 52 minutes Carlton where hit with the ultimate sucker punch when Newcastle broke free and Anthony Malbon nipped in front of Mashall and flicked the ball home to give the visitors a 0-3 lead.Carlton’s fight back began when manager Mjannet made some changes with both Terry Hawkridge and big tall striker Sammy Mcvicar both coming on in the 58th and 63rd minute respectively and began making inroads almost immediately. It was Mcvicar who found space for Hawkridge to cross for the first goal and it was leading scorer Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas who got the final touch to give the home side a chance. The second goal came following the third Substitution which saw Neil Grayson replace Theo Smith and literally minutes later Grayson headed home after he found himself in the right place after Nick Hall hit the cross bar from 35 yards and it bounced kindly for Grayson who rolled back the years to head home. The defeat was the first since October the 31st and it will now be up to the talented Millers side to rise again starting next week with our visit to Stamford AFC.
Carlton Town 0 v 0 Rainworth M W
Rainworth miners Welfare visited Stoke Lane on boxing day but alas it was Santa’s jingle bells that rang the loudest and not that of Millers goals.A cold and blustery afternoon awaited both sides and it was Rainworth who had the first and probably the best chance of the game on 2 minutes. Nathan Adams created space down the right hand side drawing Millers keeper Danny Marshall, he crossed the ball for the better placed Ant Lynam who only had to slot the ball home but managed to bother the sewage works with his glaring miss.Carlton had their first clear cut chance on 5 minutes when full debutant Sammy Macvicar tried a cheeky side footed flick from an Adam Kimberly cross, Alessandro Barcherini in the Rainworth goal was well beaten but the effort went just wide.9 minutes later ex Miller Barcherini held on well to a strong header from Carlton skipper Ashley Kitchin, another worthy note for the afternoon was the return of Kitchins Simon Le Bone homage hairdo which gave the home supporters some cheer during the cold afternoon.Kimberly once again turned provider on 15 minutes this time for Ian Brown but as with earlier efforts the Rainworth keeper was up to the job and this was all too easy to see when on 20 minutes he made a fingertip full length save from skipper Kitchin when It looked to be a certain opening goal for the home side.Ashley Kitchin can count himself unlucky not to have scored following his trade mark shot which for all the world looked home and dry but the Millers faithful hadn’t counted on the head of Ricky Hanson deflecting the ball safe for the visitors.Throughout the game challenges rained in from both sides and this was all too prevalent on 35 minutes when Lee Cooksey brought down Ash Grayson on the edge of the box but the resulting free kick was cleared to Alistair Asher but his effort went begging. The second half took some getting going in the late December chill and it was Carlton playing against the wind that had the first chance from a Ryan Goward cross and it was Rubbens Wiggins- Thomas who was very unlucky not to give the Millers the lead.Rob Gill had a header well saved by the visiting keeper on 65 minutes when jumped highest to get a head on a Macvicar cross. With 7 minutes to go Wiggins- Thomas scored for Carlton getting on the end of a ball threaded through by Rob Gill, The assistant ref gave the chance offside which kept the game at 0-0.With the game finishing 0-0 I have no doubt the Rainworth will be happy with that result but the Millers not so, the wind was strong and hard to play with or against and that made the game hard for both sides. 2011 ends with the Millers still unbeaten since October 31st with the first game of the New Year at Lincoln United I am sure the Millers will be up for adding some more points to our current tally. I very merry Christmas and a Happy New year one and all and we look forward to seeing you in 2012.
Carlton Town 4 v 2 Coalville Town
Coalville Town visited the Bill Stockeld stadium on Saturday to face a Carlton side unbeaten since October 31st.On 2 minutes Carlton Town had the first real chance of the game when he received the ball from Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas from 10 yards and went close just missing the Coalville net.The Millers caused a number of problems in the early minutes and it was left to Nick Hall to open the scoring. Hall got on the end of a ball played by Wiggins-Thomas and crashed the ball home from a full 18 yards via a fumble from the Coalville keeper Sean Bowles .With the Millers 1-0 up it was keeper Danny Marshall who kept Carlton in front with a great save after the visitors broke well with Anthony Carney creating space on the right hand side of the box but Carlton stopper got down well and smothered any trouble from Coalville.Carlton’s number 8 Theo Smith caused allot of trouble for the visitors in the first half and another chance created by Smith saw Adam Kimberly go very close on 25 minutes with Bowles in the visitor’s goal unable to get close.Nick Hall had another close chance on 35 minutes and it looked like it was in only for Coolville’s Lewis Dodd to clear off the line only minutes before Dodd had been very lucky to get away with only a caution following a challenge on Theo Smith.Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas was clean through with only the keeper to beat but it was Bowles between the sticks that stopped Wiggins-Thomas doubling the lead. With the half almost over it was Wiggins Thomas who this time got the better of the visiting keeper, he got on the end of a ball played by Adam Kimberly following some good work with Ian Brown down the left. The second half started with Carlton missing a couple of half chances in front of the great home support at the Terri Sheppard end of the ground.Chris Gummery scored for Coalville on 52 minutes and gave the visitors a sniff of a chance, the goal came from a classy cross on the right wing and fell to Gummery after the Millers defence failed to clear the lines.9minutes later Rubbens-Wigggins-Thomas got on the end of a clearance from keeper Danny Marshall, his pure speed and ability beat Shaun Roulston in the Coalville defence and he fired the ball low and wide of the keeper to give the Millers the lead once again.Wiggins Thomas was once again clear through on the keeper once again on 68 minutes but as he had done twice in the first half he kept the talented Millers forward at bay with another good save.Robert Gill who was on for Ian Brown went close on 85 minutes, Gill had been fed the ball by debutant Sammy Macvicar who made the switch from Loughborough Dynamo in the mid-week.Macvicar had a chance of his own on 85 minutes when he swivelled in the box following a corner and put the ball just past the post.On 90 minutes Nick Hall scored his second and the Millers fourth goal when he got on the end of a flick on from new boy Macvicar, Hall fired hard and beat the keeper at the near post. The game was almost over when Coalville scored through Harry Langton on 90+4 minutes to give the shoreline a more respectable look.Yet another three points for the Millers against a good Coalville side continues a run of great results for Carlton Town as we enter the Christmas period. Boxing day will see the visit of Rainworth Miners Welfare to Stoke Lane with a visit to Lincoln United on January 2nd to kick off the new year.I will finish this report with a merry Christmas and very happy New Year from all at Carlton Town FC and we look forward to seeing you over the festive period as we push for success for the rest of the season.
Goole AFC 2 v 2 Carlton Town
Sometimes football matches define teams and season long performances and Saturdays visit to the Victoria Pleasure Ground in Goole was one of those. The game had everything culminating in a fire cracker final ten minutes. It was Goole who showed early with an effort on two minutes from Glynn Cotton, the chance went wide of stand in keeper Neil Wests left post.Terry Hawkridge was his normal self on a near freezing afternoon causing the home defence no end of problems culminating in an early chance resulting in a corner, the ball was played short to Hawkridge who crossed well to find Theo Smith who headed home but he hadn’t banked on home keeper Aaron Chapman been in outstanding form making the first of several outstanding saves on the afternoon and keeping the game scoreless. On 8 minutes Adam Kimberly worked the ball well with Wiggins-Thomas to create and opening and shoot just wide.Goole AFC opened the scoring on 24 minutes when Carlton failed to clear their lines after a Vikings corner and Glynn Cotton crashed the ball home from 10 yards.Despite the goal the Millers continued to press as they had all afternoon and it was that man Hawkridge who fired a shot from the left hand corner of the 18 yard box towards the top right hand corner of the goal but it was the Viking keeper Chapman who once again made an outstanding stop, there is no question that had almost any other keeper have been in goal the score line would have been so different. As the game approached half time Rubbens Wiggins- Thomas weaved his way into the box only to shoot into the side netting and keep the keep the Vikings 1-0 up at the break.Les Mcjannets side came out a different side after the break and began to make headway against a resilient home side with the first chance coming from Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas as he fired just wide on 46 minutes.Carlton Town gained a corner on 48 minutes this was cleared by Scott Helliwell in the home defence as far as Theo Smith who’s weak shot was claimed easily by Chapman for Goole. It was Chapman again on 55 minutes who saved well from Terry Hawkridge who by now had been foiled three times by the impressive Vikings Keeps. On 62 minutes Goole scored their second goal against the run of play when a long ball down the middle confused Kitchin and West, this left Glynn cotton to double his and the Vikings tally for the afternoon. Probably more importantly when West attempted to clear the ball he went over the top of Kitchin and although it looked like nothing at the time it left club captain Ashley Kitchin on the floor for 45 minutes as he waited for the medical help required to prevent any further injury to the popular centre half. With Kitchin on his way to hospital the game re started 45 minutes later to the shouts of come on Millers from the travelling support.Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas began the fight back getting on the end of a Theo Smith through ball as the home defence appeared to go to sleep, he slotted the ball under the home keeper and give the Millers a glimmer of a chance on 72 minutes.Just one minute later Wiggins-Thomas was at it again forcing a great save from Chapman in the home goal.On 80 minutes Adam Kimberly fires a shot over following a move down the right and a great ball from Neil Grayson. The comeback was complete on 86 minutes when Ashley Grayson flicked a Terry Hawkridge ball on to dad Neil who crossed for Wiggins-Thomas to hammer the ball home from 10 yards and take a point from what was a difficult afternoon for all. The game finished with the two sides sharing the points but with Kitchin in the hospital it was a muted celebration for the Millers.Since the game ended it has become clear that despite first thoughts the injury was not so serious. The Millers will now face Coalville at Stoke Lane on Saturday K.O 3pm this will also be the Christmas draw night in the club house after the game.
Carlton Town 2 v 1 Loughborough Dynamo
Carlton entertained Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday afternoon at Stoke Lane and with the Millers top of the Evo-Stick league division one south it was sure to be a testing afternoon in Nottinghamshire. The early pressure was all Carlton Towns with Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas and Terry Hawkridge causing major problems for the Dynamo defence and on 7 minutes Hawkridge played the ball to Wiggins-Thomas fully 40 yards from left to right wing and the ball was controlled well and after advancing ten yards Wiggins-Thomas played the ball into the box with Josh Thornton just missing out thanks to a good save from Laurie Pearson in the Dynamo goal.It was that man Wiggins Thomas again on 10 minutes playing the ball in for the inform Ian Brown, Brown missed the goal heading just wide.It was Terry Hawkridge who was next to chance his arm on 13 minutes but the talented player just managed to get under the ball and shoot just over.Seconds later Ian Brown was through with only Pearson to beat but the latter made an impressive save to keep the score line at 0-0.On 16 minutes Sam Mcvicar created space down the right and attacked the Millers, and creating space allowed him to fire past Danny Marshall in the home goal. Loughborough had managed to take the lead and break a defence that had not conceded for 4 hours and 45 minutes. On 21 minutes Jacob Blackwell went close heading just wide of the post and giving Marshall no chance.Wiggins -Thomas received the ball from a Nick Hall cross in the box on 33 minutes but was unable to get the shot in and the eventual strike was a simple save for the visiting keeper. The game was end to end but it was the visitors who looked most likely to increase the lead and this was proved on 39 minutes when Jamie Clarke’s shot was saved by the Carlton stopper. On the stroke of half time Terry Hawkridge crossed from a corner for Nick Hall to go very close but sadly not close enough. The second half began with the Millers attacking and showing a new sense of drive and desire to get something from a game that in the first half had proved beyond them. The first real chance of the second half came on 49 minute when Josh Thornton jumped the highest in the box with the resulting header just wide of the upright. On 52 minutes Nick Hall was brought down on 30 yards, spot kick specialist Terry Hawkridge hit the underside of the crossbar and in a huge slice of luck for Laurie Pearson in the Dynamo goal the ball hit him on the back and deflected for a corner when it would have been much easier to go in.On 64 minutes there was a set to between Terry Hawkridge and Jacob Blackwell with both players pushing and shoving, James Thornhill the Referee for the afternoon sent Hawkridge off and cautioned the Dynamo player also to find his way into Thornhills notebook was Matt Millns.Just 3 minutes later Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas was about to break into the box when keeper Laurie Pearson missed the ball and took Wiggins-Thomas down, the Referee signalled for a penalty and then sent off the Dynamo keeper. Pearson can consider himself unlucky to have been sent off in my opinion but as he departed he was replaced by Kahil Mann Kler and his first job was to face Wiggins- Thomas who stuck the ball well and brought the sides onto an even footing.Loughborough went almost straight up the other end and forced a great save from Danny Marshall in the Millers goal at the feet of the impressive looking Sam Mcvicar. On 77 minutes the Carlton fight back was complete when Sub Robert Gills shot was poorly handled by replacement keeper Mann Kler and it fell into the back of the net.As the game came to an end it was down to a strong Millers defence to keep Carlton in front with Matt Millns and Alistair Asher marshalling the game to a conclusion. The Millers further stretched their lead at the top of the table to three points following the other sides around them failing to take maximum points, next Saturday sees the inform Millers travel to East Yorkshire to take on Goole Town.
Shepshed Dynamo 0 v 6 Carlton Town
Carlton Town visited Shepshed Dynamo on Wednesday evening on the back of the best form of the season. The game started strongly for the home side with ex Miller Steve Chaplin having a clear chance on one minute, the chance however went wide.Carlton opened the scoring on 5 minutes when the ball was played through to Ashley Grayson who was in the side as replacement for Nick Hall who was unavailable, Grayson then played the ball forward to Ian Brown who drew the keeper and scored in the bottom left hand corner with Sam Andrew in the home goal floundering.Shepshed seemed to struggle to cope the speed and passing of the Millers and this was evident on 9 minutes when Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas was unlucky not to double the score line seeing his strike drift just wide of the upright. On 18 minutes Josh Thornton crossed the ball for Ian Brown to head just over, Brown was continuing to show some of the fantastic form of the last few weeks. The Millers doubled the lead on 20 minutes when Ashley Grayson volleyed home from 12 yards, the ball had been flicked on by Matt Millns.Shepshed had very few chances throughout the game but on 22 minutes Joe Ward went very close and it took a great save from the almost redundant Danny Marshall in the Millers goal to keep a clean sheet. It was Steve Chapman again who went very close on 29 minutes for the home side; Chapman was proving to be the major threat for the home team.Despite a short rally from Shepshed Dynamo Carlton stretched the lead to 0-3 on 35 minutes when Sam Andrew failed to catch a cross from Terry Hawkridge eventually fumbling the ball into his own net and allowing the Millers to move further out of sight. The first half ended with Ian Brown going very close as he was left unmarked in the box.The first chance of the second half fell to the impressive Terry Hawkridge as he had a snap shot that went close the left hand post.A short spell of home pressure ended with Chapman forcing Marshall into a full length save meaning the home side still had to break the duck on the night. On 54 minutes Carlton won the last of four corners and it was Terry Hawkridge swung the ball in and it was Ian Brown who scored his second and Carlton fourth of the night.Carlton had 80% of the play on the night and this continued throughout the second half.Ian Brown tried to score his third goal on 59 minutes but his speculative chip was just about under the control of Sam Andrew in the home goal.On 69 minutes Ashley Grayson scored his second goal and it was that man Hawkridge who swung in another corner for Grayson to head home.On 71 minutes Ashley Grayson capped a great performance with his hat trick goal as he got on the end of an Ashley Kitching clearance from deep inside Carltons half to give the Millers a six goal lead. The game concluded with some great position play for Carlton and an assured performance for the much improved Millers.Cartlton now sit top of the Evo-Stick league division one south having scored more goals than any other side, next up is the visit of Loughborough Dynamo to Stoke lane on Saturday K.O 3pm
Belper Town 0 v 2 Carlton Town
Carlton Town travelled back to Derbyshire for the second time in a week to take on Belper Town and with 20 goals between the two sides already this season it was certain to be an entertaining affair for both sets of supporters.Carlton began the game strongly and it was Terry Hawkridge who crossed the ball only to see the ball drift out as early as the second minute.Top scorer Ian Brown had a half chance on 3 minutes getting on the end of a ball crossed by Danny Fletcher and once again the ball drifted out.It was Belpers chance to push forward on 5 minutes when Greg Wright went down the right and it was the inform Matt Millns who cleared the ball at the first attempt.Belper again had a half chance on 14 minutes when Charlie Weir had a snap shot but as he was about to pull the trigger on his effort the impressive Fletcher made a last gasp challenge. The Millers played cat and mouse with some enthralling end to end football in the first half and it was Ian Brown who had the first clear chance for either side when he headed directly at Andy Richmond in the Belper goal after getting on the end of a Terry Hawkridge cross.Belper captain Colin Marrison will regret his miss on 21 minutes as he found himself with an open goal after Keeper Marshall failed to punch convincingly but with the goal wide open Marrison put the ball wide and some distance over.Adam Kimberly had a great effort go just wide of the post and crossbar on 22 minutes, the chance came after Hawkridge and Kimberley worked some space on the edge of the box.Throughout the first half former Belper Town forward Rubben Wiggins-Thomas gave his ex-employers a huge headache as he chased and dribbled his way around and this was evident on 41 minutes when a Terry Hawkridge cross looked destined to be on the head of Wiggins-Thomas until Richard Adams just got a little touch to avert the imminent danger. It was however Wiggins-Thomas again just a minute later who forced the home keeper to save well as he flashed a shot from 25 yards out.The second half began as the first had ended with Wiggins-Thomas forcing the home keeper into a save as he got on the end of a Terry Hawkridge cross.Greg Wright was brought down just outside the penalty box on 52 minutes and it was Froggat who forced Keeper Marshall to make a great save and keep the Millers in the game.Nick Hall almost scored for the Millers on 54 minutes but for the foot of a last gasp goal line deflection.Belper had a corner on 66 minutes taken by captain Marrison but cleared by the impressive Marshall in the Millers goal.Longstaff was a shining light in the second half for a home side who were half the side they were in the first half and that showed on 71 minutes as he showed a turn of pace and gave Millns a problem at the back but his effort flashed just wide.Carlton Town went ahead on 78 minutes through Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas as he got his head onto an Alistair Asher cross to give the home side no chance. On 87 minutes Wiggins-Thomas clinically doubled his and Carlton Towns tally as he got on the end of a through ball from Captain Nick Hall.Belper exerted some late pressure on the Millers with Danny Marshall equal to everything that was thrown at him and this was evident on 90+5 minutes when Belpers Ashley Laongstaff shot from all of 25 yards only for Marshall to make a classy save to secure yet another clean sheet.Carlton Town took all three points and continue their assault on the top places in the division and with Ilkeston in FA Trophy action the Millers are now on the same points and sitting joint second in the Evo-Stick league division one south. Carlton Town 2 v 2 Kidsgrove Athletic
Kidsgrove Athletic visited Stoke Lane and if last season’s exciting encounter was anything to go by then this was going to be a great game. The game kicked off at high speed with both sides quick to the ball and trying to create chances and the first of these fell to Terry Hawkridge who created space just inside the 18 yard box but shot just over the visitors goal. Just two minutes later Hawkridge turned creator for Dan Fletcher to fire just over from almost the same position as Hawkridge just two minutes earlier.Carlton where beginning to look like a side who would create many chances on a cold Nottinghamshire afternoon with the next falling to Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas getting on the end of a Fletcher crossed ball, he flicked it up over the defenders head to beat him easily but keeper Steve Hodgon was equal to the chance.Kidsgrove had their first real pressure on 8 minutes winning a corner off Rob Darkin but the corner its self came to nothing with Danny Marshall collecting well but this was the first of five tough minutes for the Millers with the visitors offering several chances with a combination of head, foot and keeper Marshall able to thwart the Kidsgrove onslaught. On 21 minutes the Millers opened the scoring as Terry Hawkridge crossed into the box and Neil Grayson met the ball well enough to create a chance for the inform Josh Thornton to head home via a touch from keeper Hodgson.Kidsgrove had a good chance to level on 29 minutes from the head of Danny Griggs but Danny Marshall was once again equal to the chance.Just seconds later the impressive Karl Charlton hit the crossbar for the visitor from 12 yards out.On 31 minutes Neil Grayson got on the end of a Hawkridge cross and it took a very good save from Hodgson to keep out an inform Grayson.Josh Thornton and Terry Hawkridge combined well again on 39 minutes with Thornton unlucky to see an inform Hodgson save and win a corner which he claimed with ease.Kidsgrove number 3 Steve Brannan found himself in far too much space on 40 minutes as the Millers defence went missing, he pushed on 5 yards and shot into the bottom right hand corner of the Millers net giving Marshall no chance and putting the visitors on level terms once again.Rubben Wiggins-Thomas was fouled on 44 minutes to win a free kick taken by Terry Hawkridge with his effort very close to the keepers post thanks to another good save and it was the talented Hodgson who collected the ball from the resulting corner as Referee Nicolas Hopton blew for half time ending a very exciting first half with plenty of chance at both ends.As the second half kicked off it was the Millers who started quickest and it was debutant Alistair Asher who crossed for Ashley Grayson to head home and give the Millers the lead. This was Ash Graysons 7th goal since his arrival from Heanor Town and makes a total of 14 for the current campaign.Just a short few minutes late it was the impressive Karl Charlton who netted to level to put the visitors on level terms, he got on the end of a speculative cross in too much space and tried a cheeky half overhead kick which was just to good for Danny Marshall in the home net on 51 minutes. On 56 minutes Wiggins-Thomas got on the end of a Neil Grayson ball with a chance on goal but the ball bobbled and was fired over.Kidsgove can count themselves unlucky not to have gone ahead, Danny Smith switched the ball 60 yards wing to wing and it was Ashley Carter who controlled well and was allowed to push into the box, it took a great save from Marshall to keep the score line level and showing just why he is so highly rated. On 65 minutes Neil Grayson was fouled once again outside the box this time forcing Ref Hopton to caution the defender. Hawkridge once again played a quality ball from the free kick which gave Wiggins-Thomas a chance to score and he did everything he needed to do but it was that man Hopton who once again was able to stop the impressive Wiggins-Thomas.On 88 minutes the Millers had a late corner after a Hawkridge shot was deflected, but as the ball was played over Millns fouled a defender for the chance to go begging. The game ended with both sides having a handbags moment and for the calm head of the officials there could have been several cautions at best.Carlton continue the unbeaten run but it is now clear the back four need to tighten up, given that we can score for fun once things do get tighter that will turn a good Carlton side into an almost unbeatable Carlton side.Next up for the Millers is the trip to league new boys New Mills next Saturday at 3pm and the next home game is the home encounter against league leaders Ilkeston Town on Wednesday November the 23rd kick off 3pm.May I remind you that the Christmas draw tickets are now available from club members and officials at £1 per ticket with around £2500 worth of prizes up for grabs, get your tickets soon they are selling out!
Carlton Town 2 v 0 Brigg Town
Brigg Town visited Stoke Lane on Saturday and with the Millers on form following 3 great points away at Sutton Coldfield on Tuesday evening Carlton would be looking to keep the pressure on the teams above them in the league table.Brigg Town began to show early with Josh Thornton called into action to stop Phillip Jackman as he looked to make an impact for the visitors.Throughout the first half Rubbens Wiggins-Thomas threatened the Zebras going forward and on 5 minutes Greg Archer nudged the Millers front man to gain a free kick for the home side only for the resulting free kick to come to nothing.Just a few minutes later the first clear chance arose as Neil Grayson headed the ball toward the goal following Ashley Graysons chance that hit the bar, the assistant flagged for offside with Referee Barney allowing play on from Keeper Woodheads hands. On 14 minutes Neil Grayson opened the scoring side footing the Millers in front from a Wiggins-Thomas cross after he was forced wide by Plant. The game was scrappy throughout and both sides where dogged in their search for clear cut chances.Brigg Town where awarded a free kick on 24 minutes for a strong challenge by Millers centre half Matt Millns the free kick came to nothing. On 27 minutes Ashley Grayson swung a lovely ball into the box only for the Zebras keeper Tom Wooodhead to claim the ball well.Carlton had a half chance on 38 minutes for Neil Grayson as he headed wide from a Rob Darkin cross. It was Grayson again who missed the chance to double his and the Millers lead when he was clean though with only the keeper to beat following a Hawkridge cross only for the keeper to hold on to the effort and extinguish any threat. The first half was a scrappy one with Carlton showing stronger the visitors with a 1-0 half time lead and this continued into the second half. The first real chance of the second half came on 58 minutes when Ash Grayson had a chance cleared off the line by Lee Roy Cochraine following a Kimberly cross.Wiggins-Thomas hit the underside of the bar as he got on the end of a Neil Grayson flick on; this followed a Wiggins-Thomas run into the box.On 60 minutes Carlton Matt Millns header from a Hawkridge corner is easily collected by Woodhead in the visitor’s goal.On 69 minutes Wiggins-Thomas earned the home side yet another corner in a half that showed why the Millers have done so well so far this season earned through hard work and the constant closing down of the visitors and the drive to get to every ball first, the resulting corner was cleared by the Zebras.Ashley Grayson had one of the clearest cut chances of the game as he was clean through with only the keeper to beat but Woodhead stood up well to the Millers number 4 and saved. The Carlton defence looked fairly assured throughout the game and this was born out when Brigg had a goal mouth scramble on 77 minutes and it was Millns who cleared well to move the home side closer to a clean sheet. For the second time in the half Wiggins-Thomas hit the crossbar following yet another Hawkridge corner on 80 minutes. On 82 minutes Terry Hawkridge continued another strong performance as he made space for a strike on goal, the shot was fumbled by Woodhead in the visitors net and it was just reward for the hard working Wiggins-Thomas the he was in the right place at the right time to fire home despite Archers efforts to keep the ball out of the net.In the closing seconds of the game Nick Hall tried a shot from distance that was deflected wide for a corner which was cleared by Brigg. There is no doubt this was not a pretty game but the Millers always looked in control against an ordinary Brigg Town side and had the surface not been so heavy and with just a little more luck the score line could have been much greater. Carlton move on to the visit of Kidsgrove Athletic next Saturday K.O 3pm. Just a quick mention for the Christmas draw, the tickets are available now and your support will be gratefully appreciated, the tickets cost just £1 each and come in books of ten should you want a full book and they are available via and club official or through the bar.
Sutton Coldfield 1 v 2 Carlton Town
A very cold and damp evening awaited the Millers as they warmed up on the plastic pitch of Sutton Coldfield.Early on in the game Ian Brown and Rubbens Wiggins- Thomas created early scares for the West Midlands side.Sutton’s first chance of note came in an early counter attack but Millers keeper Marshall was quick of his line to snuff out the chance at the feet of James Quiggin. On 16 minutes Ashley Grayson had a header cleared of the line by Booth with the goal keeper all at sea.On 21 minutes it was Carlton who was offering up most of the position and this was evident with Brown and Hawkridge creating several chances all just missing the target. It was Ashley Grayson who once again troubled the talented Cooper in the Coldfield net this time from fully 45 yards with the keeper holding on at the second attempt. On 25 minutes Ian Brown played his way down the right hand side and played a ball across the six yard box and it was Wiggins-Thomas who fired home and gave the Millers the lead.It was nice to see a small but dedicated band of supporters at Sutton Coldfield and they made quire a noise with Alan and the trumpet making the lion’s share of the noise.Sutton Coldfield had one more serious effort on 42 minutes as Dean Rathbone attempted to hit the target only to succeed in hitting the car park.It was that man Wiggins-Thomas who had the final chance of the first half as he side footed a Terry Hawkridge cross towards goal only for Sutton’s keeper to make another great save.It was Sutton Coldfield who came out in the second half looking to create chances. On 50 minutes Hawkridge created space in the 18 yard box only for Cooper to save well once again and Wiggins-Thomas was unlucky not to get on the end of the re bound.Nick Hall had a chance just a few minutes later but a deflection helped the ball round the near post and the resulting corner was a simple catch for Cooper. On 70 minutes Theo Smith was replaced due to injury and it was Birthday boy Neil Grayson on his 47th birthday who took his place. On 75 minutes Joel Fuller equalised after Marshall fumbled the ball and defence failed to clear, it was Fuller who was quickest off the mark.On 83 minutes the Sutton keeper a great performance making a great save from a Hawkridge free kick.Neil Grayson went very close on 85 minutes connecting with a Wiggins-Thomas cross. On 89 minutes Ian Brown flicked the ball on to Hawkridge who carried the ball fully 25 yards and rounded three defenders to score from an acute angle; it seems Terry only scores great goals at Coles Lane.Carlton Town took all three points with a late goal on the 3g surface at Sutton Coldfield and will have set aside the disappointment of Saturdays defeat at Grantham and with the Millers just 4 points off the top in 5th. Saturday sees the visit of Brigg Town FC to Stoke Lane K.O 3pm.
Grantham Town 4 v 2 Carlton Town
Carlton made the short trip down the A52 to play Grantham Town at the Meres and with the weather very changeable with gale force winds I would be a difficult afternoon’s football. The game kicked off with the home side kicking toward the leisure centre and for the first 10 or so minutes encounter was well balanced. The first chance fell to Grantham after Garchedi played a lovely ball square across the box for Martin Ball to miss from 6 yards.Carlton’s first chance came following a foul on Theodore Smith out on the right wing, Terry Hawkridge took the resulting free kick but Grantham’s back four cleared well.On 21 minutes Danny Marshal in the Carlton goal made an outstanding stop to keep the game all square following a strike by Ball.Grantham Town opened the scoring on 23 minutes after the Millers defence failed to communicate with the keeper Marshal and it was Gio Carchedi who popped up to nod the ball into the net and put the Gingerbreads 1 up.Danny Marshal made another great save on 31 minutes from Paul Grimes, Grimes was a handful all afternoon.Terry Hawkridge levelled the game on 41 minutes, Hawkridge played a neat one two with Ian Brown and then confidently chipped the stranded Rob Murray in the Gingerbreads goal.On 44 minutes Ashley Grayson headed just over as the half came to an end from a Theodore Smith cross. The second half started in much the same way as the first and after 55 minutes Ben Saunders fired home from 12 yards after a corner was partially cleared.A few minutes later Adam Kimberly tried a cheeky lob of the Grantham keeper from 70 yards but his effort ended up troubling the ball boys rather than the goal.Carlton levelled the score line for the second time of the afternoon through goal machine Ian Brown as he nodded in a Hawridge cross. On 63 minutes the game changed on the referee’s decision to award a penalty to Grantham for what i later learnt was a Ryan Goward kick, the resulting spot kick was taken by Lee Potts which showed Hawkridge exactly how to do it. There was a resulting melee which saw keeper Marshall and Carchedi cautioned. On 73 minutes Carlton where awarded a penalty after Marshall cleared the length of the pitch and Ruben Wiggins-Thomas was brought down by the keeper which saw him receive a yellow card, the subsequent penalty was taken by Terry Hawkridge who could only hit the cross bar from the spot.Ben Saunders created space with 11 minutes to go which enabled a talented Paul Grimes to score a well taken goal and in reality finish of the Millers.Ashley Grayson had two close headed chances just miss as the game came to a close and the points stayed in South Lincolnshire.Grantham proved too strong for the Millers on the afternoon and it is now up to the squad to regroup to face Sutton Coldfield on Tuesday evening K.O 7.45 and next Saturday the Millers host Brigg Town fc at Stoke Lane K.O 3pm.

Carlton Town 5 v 2 Market Drayton
Carlton Town hosted Market Drayton town on Wednesday night at Stoke Lane.On a night with a few changes in the Millers side most notably the return of Ashley Grayson and his dad Neil who was wearing the captains armband. On two minutes Carlton where awarded a corner which was given after Terry Hawkridge played in Wiggins-Thomas with the subsequent corner cleared by Calum Wright for Market Drayton.Throughout the first half Wiggins-Thomas and Hawkridge gave the visitors a huge headache and this was proved on 16 minutes as a through ball was played to Neil Grayson who was challenged and it was left to Ashley Grayson to finish and put the Millers one up. On 21 minutes Ashley Grayson doubled his and Carlton’s lead as he got on the end of a Terry Hawkridge cross.Throughout the first half Wiggins-Thomas created chances and was caught offside on several occasions.Ian Brown stepped on 26 minutes to score the Millers third goal and finishing well from a Ryan Goward cross.Market Drayton struggled on the night and it took until the 29th minute for them to have their first clear cut chance but the shot from Harry Clayton was a simple stop for Danny Marshall in the Carlton goal.Neil Grayson led from the front throughout the game and showed a good touch as he fired just wide as the first half came to a close. On 51 minutes Ashley Grayson just missed out on a hat trick as he got on the end of a Hawkridge cross, the second half was looking to take a similar path as the first.Market Drayton town scored their first goal on 63 minutes as Tom Rodgers was allowed to make his way into the box and despite a slight miskick he put the ball in the back of the net.Robert Gill scored the Millers 4th goal just when Drayton had started to look dangerous, he got himself on the end of a Grayson cross and the away keeper couldn’t keep him out.Ian Brown scored his second goal on 83 minutes finishing well, Brown is starting to find his feet at Stoke Lane having scored five goals in the last three games.Market Drayton scored their second goal on 85 minutes and it was that man Clayton once again who put away his second goal, he was without doubt the best player on the Market Drayton team on the night. Carlton made it three wins in a row with tonight’s win against Market Drayton, next up is the tough visit to Grantham Town on Saturday K.O 3pm and the next home game is November the 5th with the visitors to Stoke Lane Brigg Town FC.
Loughbourgh Dynamo 2 v 4 Carlton Town
Loughborough Dynamo started strongly and before the Millers had chance to take a breath they fell behind to a Jake Betts header on 3 minutes, the goal came in the third attack in three minutes. It is normal for Carlton to hit right back with the next attack and that is exactly what happened at the Nanpantan sports ground this afternoon, a Terry Hawkridge free kick travelled across the face of the box and reached Ian Brown who crossed for Theo Smith to side foot the Millers level on 4 minutes.Dynamo player Jacob Blackwell kept the Carlton defence busy for most of the first half making darting runs and offering different options to Dynamo going forward.Carlton went close on 21 minutes with Hawkridge once again getting in behind Loughborough but his cross was flagged offside by assistant Buck.On 30 minutes Ian Brown latched onto a speculative ball forward and outpaced three Dynamo defenders to fire past the advancing Mann-kler in the Loughborough goal to put the Millers 2-1 up.On 39 minutes one rash challenge was to change the whole game, Millers player Theo Smith kicked out at a Loughborough defender just outside the box, referee Thornhill had no choice but to dismiss Smith and reduce the Millers to 10 men.The remainder of the first half was played out with 10 man Carlton on top and this was proved on 41 minutes when the impressive Hawkridge took the ball in mid-air and created space with his first touch and crossed for Ian Brown to increase the half time lead to 3-1 and shock the home side who after all where a man to the good. When the second half began I am sure that the Millers bench would have expected a backlash against a full strength Dynamos but as all too often happens Carlton with ten men showed some serious steel to provide the 100 or so fans with a great spectacle.Danny Marshall and Robert Darkin failed to communicate on the 47th minute to allow the impressive Jamie Clarke to rain the Millers back with the 5th goal of the afternoon. It was a non-footballing incident that caused most concern in the second half when the Millers captain Ashley Kitchin fell badly and hurt his knee, those who know Kitch know he doesn’t go down easily and coupled with his screams the worst was feared as he was stretchered off, it was later found to be less serious. The second half saw Dynamo hit either the bar or post on no less than six occasions there was also three quality saves from Danny Marshall. To add insult to injury for the home side Carlton capped off a fantastic team performance when Robert Gill latched onto a shot from Nick Hall that was spilled by the Dynamo keeper to give the final score line of Loughborough Dynamo 2 Carlton Town 4.Next up for the Millers is the home game on Wednesday evening (k.o 7.45pm) against Market Drayton Town.
Ilkeston FC 2 v 0 Carlton Town
The millers visited the New Manor ground to take on league leaders Ilkeston FC on yet another Monday night. The Robins are top of the league and in the first few minutes it was clear why, quick and agile and attacking at speed.Ilkeston opened the scoring early on 11 minutes with Liam Green finishing well from 25 yards.Carlton’s first attack of merit came when Terry Hawkridge weaved his way down the right hand side and earned the Millers a corner but Carlton where not able to capitalise on the chance.Nick Hall had several clear cut chances but his best was early doors when his header grazed the top of the bar once again via a Hawkridge cross.Carlton lost Brown on 34 minutes and he was replaced by Neil Grayson in the attack. Most of the first half saw Carlton restricted to shots from distance and Danny Marshal in the Millers goal having to play out of his skin including a point blank save on 41 minutes from Thomas. The second half started much the same as the first had finished with Ilkeston pushing the Millers with every attack and it was Ex Carlton player Daryll Thomas that caused the most problems on the night. Without question Nick Hall was one of the stand out players on either side on the night creating a number of chances and this continued in the second half with a lovely swivel in midfield and run which lead to a strike that almost caught the Robins keeper off guard. It was Daryll Thomas who got the Second goal for Ilkeston and it was a lovely mix of speed and an eye for goal that beat Marshal without much of a problem. With the final whistle the mainly home support of 579 cheered as Wilsons charges stretch their lead at the top of the league. It will be a well-deserved rest for the millers who have played three games in five days.Next up is the FA Trophy with Carlsberg at Stoke Lane this Saturday K.O 3pm.
Carlton Town 0 v1 Hednesford Town
The FA Cup in association with Budweiser rolled into Stoke lane on Saturday afternoon and the opposition Hednesford Town making their first visit to play Carlton Town. The game started well for both sides with Hednesford getting an early chance but they were not able to convert their chance. It was then time for a Carlton chance through Jermain Hollis and his cross that was missed in the box by Ruben Wiggins-Thomas.On 7 minutes Hednesford attacked and it was down to Danny Marshall to make one of very few he had to make in the whole game.On 20 minutes the turning point of the first half took place, Nick Hall played the ball through the middle for Wiggins-Thomas as he turned and began to take flight the Hednesford defender Pedro Monteiro brought the Millers number 9 down and although through on goal Referee Craig Grundy deemed the challenge only worthy of a caution and leaving the home crowd and the players questioning the decision. The Free kick that was awarded was fired just over by Ryan Goward.Goward who had missed the first free kick put in a good shift during the game and several free kicks and corners went close thanks to Goward’s hard work.Hednesford had one further chance just before half time and this time it was the lively Marvin Robinson who fired wide from distance. The second half continued in the same vain as the first with both sides hardly challenging Marshall or Crane in the two goals. It was another Goward free kick that was the first clear cut chance of the half and it finished just wide of Dan Cranes post.On 79 minutes Nick Hall turned the defence to create a chance out of nothing and it was collected by crane with little trouble. On 83 minutes Chris Clements got himself into the box and was going away from goal, Marshall hesitated and then went in to challenge Clements, the Hednesford player went down and Ref Grundy pointed at the spot and awarded the Pitmen a penalty. Clements stepped up to take the spot kick and placed the ball to Marshall’s right and gave the Staffordshire side the lead.Despite loads of effort from the Carlton side it was in vain and it will be Hednesford that that will advance into Monday mornings draw. The Carlton side and all involved in the club should be rightly proud of the show they put on in front of 230 supporters.Next up for the Millers will be Mondays game away at Ilkeston Town K.O 7.45.
Carlton Town 2 v 4 Belper Town (AET)
Carlton Town hosted Belper Town for the second time in five days in the Doodson Sport cup.Carlton started well with a 2nd minute chance for Rob Gill who grazed the post following a searching run into the Belper half. A second chance came when Jermain Hollis was brought down by Belpers keeper Andrew Richmond only for the Referee Martin Dexter to wave play on.On 23 minutes Belper made a sweeping attack into the Millers half and John Froggatt finished well from a Rushbury cross, Belper went one up and it was totally against the run of play.On 35 minutes Jon Froggatt played the ball forward only for Lee Morris to lob Danny Marshall in the Carlton Town goal. Half time had arrived and with the Millers two goals down the game looked dead and gone. The second half kicked off in a similar way to the first half with several chances for both sides, several good challenges from Rob Gill saved the day early on and it was Danny Marshall who was on top form making four high class saves showing his continued growth as one of the top keepers in the Evo-Stick league.Carltons Theo Smith missed three headers in the box in the second half which would have been disappointing had the Millers not made a remarkable comeback.A speculative strike from 35 yards by Ryan Goward slipped under Richmond in the Belper goal to pull the game back to 1-2 and the comeback was complete when Ashley Grayson stepped up to square the game with an injury time goal.Extra time was somewhat of an ani-climax with two further goals for the impressive jon Froggatt giving him the hat trick and Belper a comfortable 2-4 victory.Belper will return to Stoke Lane a week on Saturday in the FA Trophy but first is the Second Round qualifying of the FA Cup with Budweiser this Saturday at home when the visitors will be Hednesford Town.
Carlton Town 3 v 2 belper Town
Belper Town visited Stoke Lane and with Ruben Wiggins-Thomas back in the Millers line up against his old side Carlton had a strong squad.Belper started strongly with Colin Marrison having a header go just wide from 5 yards. On 14 minutes Carlton where awarded a free kick which was taken by Terry Hawkridge but Marrison defended well for Belper. The game was well balanced until a good passing move between Hawridge and Josh Thornton led to the former crossing a lovelly ball for Ashley Grayson to slot his header home on 28 minutes.Despite Carlton been 1-0 up the game was well balanced until Lee Morris found himself free in the Millers box, Morris tried a cheeky lob over Danny marshall and he drew the game level.Just as the half began to draw to a close Wiggins-Thomas was awarded a free kick after he was brought down on 35 yards. Ashley Grayson stepped up and hit the cross bar with the shot only to see Wiggins-Thomas follow up the rebound to put Carlton 2-1 up at half time. The second half kicked off with both sides creating half chance and after just 7 minutes Deon Meikle scored the equaliser for Belper side footing a squared ball.On 50 minutes another sweetly struck free kick was this time saved by an agile Tom Turner in the Belper goal and the resulting corner was cleared well by the Belper back four.Apart from a few half chances the game looked like it was going to end a draw but Belper seemed to start to allow the Millers to take the game to them and it was this that was to be there downfall.Terry Hawkridge had another outstanding game and it was him who made his way into the box only to be brought down by a combination of three Belper players and it was Hawkridge who stepped up to take the spot kick himself and he slotted the ball into the back of the net to give Carlton all three points and the bumper home crowd something to cheer about.Next up at Stoke Lane is another visit for Belper on Wednesday night in the Doodson sport league cup K.O 7.45 and next Saturday will see the visit of Hednesford Town in the FA Cup 3.00pm kick off.
Carlton Town 1 v 0 Heanor Town
Carlton Town entertained near neighbours Heanor Town in the first round qualifying of the F Cup with Budweiser. The game began well for both sides and the first notable event was Carlton’s Theo Smith getting cautioned on 12 minutes for leading with the elbow.Rubens Wiggins Thomas played well throughout the game on his full debut for Carlton and on 20 minutes he weaved his magic to gain a corner which was left for Millers captain Ashley Kitchin to take but nobody was able to get on the end of the cross. On 30 minutes Ruben Wiggins Thomas was lean through on Heanor keeper mark Frost only for him to bring down Thomas inside the box, referee Neil Guest only booked Frost and that was about to cost the Millers dearly with Rob Gill having the penalty kick saved by the lucky Heanor keeper.Heanor’s number 9 Nathan Benger had several half chances in the first half but nothing clear cut which kept Carlton in the game at half time with the score line 0-0.The second half kicked off with both sides battling hard, Wiggins Thomas went close in the box and then minutes later he fired just over from 18 yards almost giving the Millers the lead.On 81 minutes a corner came over and Nick Hall had his chance cleared off the line as far as the edge of the box and it was left for Ashley Kitchin to fire a great finish into the top right hand corner of the Heanor net and to give Carlton a vital 1-0 lead.As the game closed out Heanor had 4 very close chances to give them a share of the spoils and the closest came when Benger tried to beat Marshall but a very agile and acrobatic stop kept Carlton in front. The final chance came when Jermain Hollis grazed the bar on 90+4 minutes after a great ball in from Wiggins Thomas. Carlton go through to Monday Second round qualifying draw and the next game is at Stoke Lane next Saturday V Belper Town K.O 3pm.
Carlton Town 1 v 0 Shepshed Dynamo
Carlton Town entertained near neighbours Shepshed Dynamo on Wednesday evening hopeing to end a run of three defeats. The evening started with a presentation from Carlton le Willows school, le willows has been working closely with the Millers and the two have formed a thriving partnership fundraising £100 for the clubs ground development fund.Shepshed started the game strongly attacking from the start but it was Carlton who created the first clear chance when Adam Kimberley broke through the middle only to find the Dynamo keeper Ayden Duffy in good form. Former Miller Steve Chaplin wore the number 9 shirt for Dynamo and he hit the post on 13 mins after dancing his way through the Carlton box.Terry Hawkridge made a return to the starting eleven and his performance really helped the Millers in their performance and on 30 mins he played the ball into the box only for Neil Grayson to hit the crossbar. Soon after Carlton had the ball in the back of the net from Ian Brown but it was ruled out by Referee John Brooks. The first half came to an end with Carlton on the attack and showing a completely different side to the last three games. The second half began with the millers pushing Shepshed and Carlton had corner after corner and chance after chance and Terry Hawkridge once again providing great skill on the wing and swinging in good balls for firstly Ashley Grayson and then Nick hall with both chances saved by Duffy in the Dynamo goal.Ian Brown and Terry Hawkridge passed the ball well to create clear chance for Terry but he shot just wide. Coming on as a Substitute Rubens Wiggins-Thomas three chances in five mins as the game began to come to an end.Ashley Grayson who was making his home debut capped the night off with the winning goal as Neil Grayson passed the ball to his son who hit the target with a great strike and sent the bumper home crowd into a jubilant mood.Carlton take three points and buckets of confidence into Saturdays FA Cup tie against Heanor Town (KO 3PM)
Hucknall Town 3 v 2 Carlton Town
Carlton Town travelled the short distance to Hucknall Town for the first league meeting between the two sides for many years.Carlton began the game well and it was Robert Gill who went closest in the first minute but chose to try and square the ball rather than shoot leaving the chance to go begging. It was only three minutes when Carlton opened the scoring when Ian Brown latched onto a Nick Hall through ball to carve the Hucknall defence wide open and give the Millers a much deserved early lead. The game throughout the first half was end to end with several chances falling to Hucknall Towns Kieran Watson most notably forcing Millers keeper Danny Marshall into a good save when he was through on goal. Carlton Town travelled to Derbyshire to face Borrowash Victoria in the FA Cup with Budweiser.Carlton started quickly with a chance on two minutes, Ian Brown had a chance that was well saved by Vics keeper Smith only for Theo Smith to follow up and slot the ball into the net.Carlton continued to run the game with large periods of creative football with Borrowash unable to make any serious impact. There was a chance on 18 minutes for Ryan Goward as he tried to chip the Vics keeper from 40 yards only to see his effort finish just wide of the target. On 21 minuites Carlton doubled the lead with Ian Brown getting on the end of a great through ball from Curtis Shaw to fire the Millers further in front. The only chance of any real note for Borrowash in the first half fell to prolific goal scorer Marc Finlay, the ball was floated into the Millers box and Finlay was left with a free header only to miss the target. As the first half concluded a further chance fell to Nick Hall as he weaved his way through the defence and midfield of Borrowash only to run out of steam as he entered the box, another example of the Millers showing there higher league standing. The second half kicked off and immediately carried on in same way as the first half ended with some great passing down the right hand side. Borrowash had certainly had time to regroup because the second half brought a more direct formation and direct play.On 55 minutes Wilson the Borrowash manager Wilson managed to talk himself into been sent off, he had already been warned in the first half but continued his tirade of abuse and for this watched the rest of the game from behind the perimeter barriers. On 61 minutes Ian Brown added his second and the Millers third goal with the simplest of movements, Nick hall headed the ball on for Brown to nod home from five yards. The Borrowash defence and keeper Smith looked at each other with nobody sure what had happened. On 80 minutes Vics number 9 Finlay capitalised on a mix up between Marshall and his back four and fired home into an open net to give the home side there first goal.Vics number 2 Green was sent for an early shower for a second bookable offence after a tangle with Nick Hall.Borrowash played better in the second half but in the end lost to a comprehensive Millers display, The next round of the cup is on September the 17th as we entertain Heanor Town.Next up in the league is the away trip to Hucknall Town next Saturday K.O 3pm.

Carlton town travelled the short distance to the oldest club in the world on Saturday afternoon for the third of four games in eight days. Carlton lined up without captain Kitching and replacing him in the side was Jack Davis who was making his millers debut, taking the captain’s armband was Robert Darkin. With Sheffield fc kicking off the first real action of note cam for Sheffield’s Steve Woolley as he got on the end of A flick on but he couldn’t convert his chance inside the millers box. Sheffield defended well in the final 25 minutes to stop Carlton Town scoring their second goal.Throughout the game both sides had several players booked through a combination of aggression and silly bookings, this continued to boil over after the final whistle and resulted in stand in captain Robert Darkin been sent off for kicking the ball directly at another player.Carlton must now prepare for the bank holiday Monday visit of lincoln united, the game kicks off at 3.00 PM at stoke lane.
Plastic Fantastic! Romulus 1 Carlton Town 3 22/08/11
Football on a Monday night is normally reserved for the Barclays Premier league but it also includes several Evo-Stick sides this season. Romulus who plays there games at Coles Lane the home of Sutton Coldfield and the new 4g surface are one of them.Carlton kicked off with great purpose which lasted all of two minutes when a high ball into the Carlton box was not dealt with by keeper Danny Marshall and Dean Baker popped up to head home. On ten minutes Ian Brown was clear through on James Wren in the Romulus goal but failed to put his chance away. Carlton pressed for most of the first half making good headway but Romulus keeper James Wren was outstanding in the first half making several good stops and a point blank reaction save from an overhead kick by Marvin Johnson. The second half started much the same as the first with the Millers pushing and Romulus steadfast in defence until a good passing sequence between Hawkridge and Brown led to an equaliser from Messiah McDonald on 60 minutes. Just a few minutes later Nick hall crashed the bar from 15 yards in yet another millers attack. On 73 minutes a high ball was put in by Ian Brown towards a solitary Terry Hawkrige, Hawkridge trapped the ball and crack a 20 yard strike into the top corner for one of the best goals I have seen In years. Hawkridge proved throughout the game to be a standout performer and gave the visitors a huge headache with every attack.Quorn managed to score on 41 minutes through Tony Law, the goal came after a good move and was the only clear cut chance of the first half for Quorn. In the second half Carlton continued to attack at will with almost the entire Carlton side offering either chances or crosses for others to attack. CARLTON TOWN 4 STAMFORD AFC 2 . 17TH AUG 2011.
Carlton Take all Three Points.Carlton Town hosted Stamford AFC at Stoke Lane and with an unchanged first eleven from Saturday’s trip to Leek Town the Millers looked to implement the good points from the weekend.Kicking right to left the game began with Carlton on top with several attacks until a brilliant double save from Stamford keeper Mario Ziccardi first from Rob Gill and then from Ryan Goward. On 15 minutes Terry Hawkridge got the ball on the edge of the box and curled an amazing strike past the outstretched Ziccardi, the goal was great reward for a player that has shown real ability so far this season. On 31 minutes Stamford failed to clear three times in their ownbox and a scuffed shot come cross was stepped over by Ian Brown and converted by captain Ashley Kitchen, Carlton where two nil up and finding the game easy against a Stamford side that where poor at the back. The second half began with Stamford scoring after just fifty seconds though Daniel Cotton and in the following five minutes Carlton struggled to gain composure and after a few attacks the game settled down. 2-1 was never going to be the final score line with the Millers pushing with every attack and Hawkridge swapping from the left to the right only showed Stamfords defence to be below par.Josh Thornton increased the score line on 69 minutes with a well worked corner undoing the Stamford back four once again. Stamford added to their earlier goal through Daniel Cotton to give the score line a balanced 3-2 look until substitute Mesiah Mcdonald scored a great individual goal. Carlton played well to win against a big and physical Stamford outfit and now look forward to the visit of Quorn to Stoke Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Leek Town 1 v 0 Carlton Town. Sat 13th August.
The Millers kicked off their new season with a trip to Leek Town in Staffordshire. Carlton kicked off playing right to left and sporting the new red and white away kit kindly sponsored by MSR News group. In the opening minutes both sides had chances, the best falling to the home side and specifically number seven Richard Minor who managed to dribble his way through three challenges before Millers keeper Danny Marshall made the first of several top draw saves to keep Carlton in the game. Just minutes later Carlton forced home keeper Roberts into a great stop of his own to deny Brown to keep the score line level.Throughout the first half both sides played some good football giving the bumper home crowd of 390 something to cheer about. The opening goal came about through ex Kidsgrove forward Matt Haddrell on 41 minutes seeing him clinically finish some good inter passing and in turn condemning Carlton to a 1-0 interval deficit. The second half kicked off well for both sides with Carlton captain Ash Kitchen giving all sorts of problems with his long throws and after just a few minutes one of his throws was flicked on by Nick Hall and drifted just passed the far post. Throughout the game Carlton number 8 Terry Hawkridge caused no end of problems and showed the travelling supporters from Nottingham a glimpse of what is to come from the talented player. The rest of the second half continued without major incident except for the change of formation from Mcjanett
to play four up front with ten minutes to go. In the closing minutes the home side gave a third home debut for Doryl Proffitt and he had several chances to extend the lead but failed to show the killer instinct that was needed.Full Time Result Leek Town 1 v 0 Carlton Town. The result was disappointing on the day given that both sides had played an entertaining performance but there were many good points to take from the game given that not many sides will leave Leek with points this season.Next up for Carlton is Stamford AFC this Wednesday evening and the following Saturday the visitors to Stoke Lane are Quorn.
