AFTER THE LORD MAYOR’S SHOW FOR UNDER PAR MILLERS AS BASFORD WIN CUP QUARTER FINAL

Carlton Town were superb at North Ferriby on Saturday and went into their Nottinghamshire Senior Cup Quarer Final against Premier League Basford United in buoyant mood, but it was the visitors who deservedly came out on top against a below par Millers, on a night that started full of positivety and ended with the Millers defeated and several key players injured.

It was not a good night at the office and one Carlton will quickly want to bounce back from, goalkeeper Felix picked up an injury early in the game, but bravely battled on as Basford piled on the pressure in a one sided first half.

Basford missed a penalty and Carlton thought they had escaped a poor first half by going in level at the interval, but the visitors scored following a corner from literally the last kick of the first half.

It was an awful time to concede, but worse than that were key injuries to Alex Hardwick and Lamin Manneh who both had to come off and with Felix clearly struggling as well, it was not to be for the Millers on the night, in fairness against a Basford side who were by far the better side on the night, particularly in the first half and well deserved their win.

Carlton were better in the second half, but the second goal killed them off and Tommy Brookbanks had no complaints with the score line and admitted to being disappointed with his team, but equally generous in his praise of Basford after his teams 2-0 defeat, when he gave a brutally honest interview to Carlton Town Tv after the game, apologising to supporters and the club for in particular the first half display.

To add salt to the wounds, Tommy told us Club Captain Niall Davie was also receiving treatment in the dressing room and several key players could be missing on Saturday when Winterton visit Stoke Lane. A bitterly cold night had seen a crowd of 181 make their way to the Bill Stokeld Stadium, sadly for the Millers, the majority of that 181 went home disappointed.
