ANOTHER BLAST FROM THE PAST FROM PHOTOGRAPHER TIM !

Our former photographer Tim continues to send through some fantastic pictures and tonight’s has a very special story attached to it

Dean Saunders pictured with wonderful Mc Daryl Claypole was booked as our guest speaker for Christmas but had to cancel at the last minute as he had a rearranged fixture with Wrexham of whom he was managing at the time.

Saunders went on to do the club two massive favours, firstly he sent the legendary Paul Merson as his replacement whose headline price due to his popularity on Soccer Saturday would normally have been considerably more, but Saunders told the club, ‘Merse’ owed him a favour and would appear for the same price. Saunders also promised he would come and do a night in the future if we still wanted him.

Not only did the club end up having two fantastic speakers, but Saunders promised to bring his Wrexham team down to Stoke Lane for a pre season friendly and he did just that .

The game was played on 23rd July 2009 in front of a decent crowd and Carlton won 3-2 , we are sure Sam our superb statto will probably remember who scored but we can’t.

The one abiding memory of what a decent guy Dean Saunders was, brought us Paul Merson, proved to be one of the best speakers we have had himself and then brought Wrexham down as he promised, what a top bloke !
