CARLTON GET TOUGH HOME DRAW IN NEXT ROUND OF TROPHY, GARTON AND HARVEY REACT TO DRAW!

Carlton Town will be delighted to have secured a home draw in the 1st qualifying round of the Fa Trophy, but they will have to be at their very best, if they are to progress in the competition.

Matlock Town will be the visitors to Stoke Lane on Saturday 26th October 3pm.

The visitors are flying high in the Bet Victor premier League and sit 4th in the table with 6 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats from their opening 13 games.

Chairman Mick Garton was happy to secure another home draw.

“We have been lucky to secure three home games on the bounce in this wonderful competition” said the Chairman.

“We have had two good wins against St Neots and Bedford Town and scored 3 goals in both games which is pleasing, we looked in total control on Saturday at 3-0 with Bedford down to ten men, but it was a pretty tense finish in the end, with perhaps a combination of us thinking the job was done and Bedford throwing caution to the wind resulting in a 3-2 score line”

“As Tommy said in his interview, that’s Cup football, but having worked with Tommy for many years before, I understand the rollercoaster ride that comes with having him on board, it’s certainly never boring” observed the Millers Chairman.

“I seem to remember us beating Matlock in the one of the big cups down here a few years ago and if I remember correctly, Wayne Scott was away and Wally was heavily involved in masterminding that win, he certainly enjoyed the day”

“It’s an exciting draw from the Supporters point of view, a local Derby, it’s certainly true that Tommy and Mark could have ended up there this season, but their new manager has proved a good choice for them , hitting the ground running and they are in a playoff position, they will certainly bring a few fans with them and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them” concluded the Millers Chairman.

We also spoke to joint manager Mark Harvey to get his reaction to the draw and he told us

“The whole club is buzzing at the minute and a cup draw against a massive club like Matlock is exactly what we would have wanted, especially at home”

“Obviously they will be strong favourites to progress, but games like this are why we are in football, we can go into the game with no pressure on us, enjoy the occasion and see where we are at the end of it”

“None of us can wait, but first we have a very important league game to focus on, we can’t let ourselves be distracted from what our first goal is at the club” said the delighted joint manager.
