CHAIRMAN PRAISE FOR TEAM AND SUPPORTERS AFTER STAMFORD DRAW!

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton said that the 1-1 draw with Stamford on Tuesday night was a fantastic advert for non league football and although Carlton had to settle for a point, after leading for a large part of the game, the Millers Chairman said in the end, it was a well earned point.

“I thought it was a cracking game, another decent crowd and a fantastic atmosphere at the ground” said Mick Garton.

“We have met two very good sides in the last few days and while on Saturday everything that could go wrong went wrong, this was an excellent response against a team that won 5-0 themselves on Saturday”

“The game was played at an incredible pace by both sides and while we spent a decent amount of time on the back foot, we defended superbly against a team buzzing from their Saturday win and with talent to match”

For the record, substitute Joel Daft scored his first goal for the first team in the first half , but Stamford equalised through a Wright header on 77.

A betting man would probably have stuck his cash on a Stamford win at that stage, but it was Carlton who came back out of the blocks to push for the winner.

Still time for Stamford to hit the bar and Steggles to make a great save and both teams received a cracking ovation from both sets of supporters at the end.

“Finally I would like to thank supporters from both teams who turned out in numbers, for their patience and support for the regulations we have had to enforce due to Covid 19, people took their seats, wore their masks, waited for their drinks and the staff and volunteers throughout including Bob and Ken on the gate did a great job in what are the most trying of circumstances, it really is appreciated by all of us at the club” concluded the Chairman.
