CLOSE TO 2K RAISED ON BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER UK AT STOKE LANE
A Carlton Town X1 representing Oakfield was made of up of youngsters, a couple of Oakfield staff, a Millers veteran , the sons of the managers and a couple of Millers youngster who took on a team managed by Millers under 7s sponsor Josh Farrell and friends and he named them the Carlton Vets X1.
The team did have a Basford United player in their ranks and a number of lads who play five a side at the ground on Monday nights.
Police Chief and friend of the club Andy Wilson teamed up with Carlton Chairman Mick Garton and Boatsy to manage the Carlton Town X1 and Zak Hill captained the side.
Before the main event, two Carlton Town Junior teams managed by Luke and Matt (Under 13 Blue) took on Carlton Town (under 13 yellow) ran by the two Johnathon’s .
Both teams donated £50 to the Charity “ Children with Cancer Uk” and parents watching started off the donations in the collection bucket on the gate, with the first game kicking off at 12 midday.
The Carlton Town Yellows came out on top 2-0 with goals for Tyler Roberts and Rony Binoy and Binoy was named man of the match.
A special mention for Aidan in goal who was proud to have kept a clean sheet.
The Main game kicked off at 2pm and was a thriller with the boys representing Oakfield taking a 4-2 lead into the break, but while Andy went to the tactics board at half time and Mick tried to work out the half time changes, Josh must have been giving out an inspirational half time talk of his own, because early in the second half it was all level at 4-4 as the vets came out with all guns blazing.
Joe Jani had scored a superb goal against Charlie Clarke in the first half and was the star man for the Carlton Vets on the day, Charlie made a couple of fine saves in the first half, but played in midfield in the second half with Carlton Town legend Ian White going between the sticks.
Whitey will not have been pleased with his defenders, with mistakes and mix ups contributing to the two goals which pull the Vets level, but credit should go not only to Joe Jani, but Henri Wilder to, as both of them hit braces.
29 year old Lewis Macaskill from Oakfield Construction was Man of the match, the former Stocksbridge winger was the star, scoring a hatrick for Boatsy’s boys, along with young Millers striker Harry Goddard who also bagged a hatrick and these two players just gave their team the edge as they eventually ran out 6-5 winners.
Special mention for Reece Barrington who got their team the other vets goal and sympathy for young impressive winger Liam, who blazed a penalty high wide and handsome for the Carlton Town X1, the word is, the ball is still travelling.
The fine defensive display of veteran Greg Hill should also be mentioned, a foot in at vital times and Whitey after conceding two quick goals made a massive late save, as did the vets keeper.
A massive thankyou to all the lads for playing and chucking in £10 each, everyone who donated on the gate and brought raffle tickets off Boatsy and Kelly, the match officials which once again included Tim Bee and of course the super salesman Gaz Bee and press chief Josh Hodgson who was also in good form and to MSR Newsgroup for their significant donations towards the raffle prizes and of course to Millers Club Ambassador Ian Storey-Moore who attended the game.
The donations, the raffle tickets sales, the players paying to play were added together and totalled over £1,900 as we left the stadium, some of the money has been paid directly to Mark Flints just giving page which was at over £11,000 raised in total before the game.
This followed Mark and his family running in the London Marathon last weekend.
Mark is hoping to hit £15,000 in total for the Charity and the contribution from the event at Carlton Town will certainly help massively towards that aim.
Carlton Town Tv were at the ground and spoke to Boatsy and Josh Farrell after this compelling contest on bank holiday Monday , thankyou to all those mentioned and all those not who contributed to an amazing day.
The interview is with our editorial team and will be put out later, but the just giving link for the appeal is below if anyone would still like to donate and help Mark and his team close in on 15k.
