CLUB STATISTICIAN REPORTS FOLLOWING HISTORIC WIN AT NUNEATON BOROUGH

Club Statistician Sam Hodkin pictured at a game a couple of years ago, reports that Saturday’s 2-1 win over Nuneaton Borough was the first time the club have beat a step 3 club away from home in the Fa cup and looks back on the last times, the club had decent Fa Cup runs.

Sam takes us all the way back to 2011/2012 which started a run of 3 decent years in the competition.

In 2011/2012, the Millers beat Heanor Town 1-0 at Stoke Lane with then Club Captain Ashley Kitchen scoring the winner in qualifying round one in front of 101. Carlton then went out in qualifying round two losing 1-0 to Hednesford in front of 201 at Stoke Lane.

2012/13 – 2-2 draw at Rainworth Miners Welfare away in Q1, won the replay at home 3-1 in front of just 63 spectators, goals in that replay from Ruben Wiggins-Thomas (2) and Ian Brown. Q2 was a 4-3 home win over New Mills, attendance 78. Goals from Ryan Whitehurst, Ruben Wiggins-Thomas (2) and Josh Thornton. Q3 was a 3-1 home loss to Bradford Park Avenue, attendance 151 and the goal coming from the spot thanks to Matt Varley.

2013/14 – Q1 was a 1-1 home draw v Brigg Town in front of 69 supporters, goal from Martin Ball with the squad riddled with injuries. Replay was a 2-1 win away with goals from Josh Thornton and Sam MacVicar.        Q2 in 2013/14 was a 1-0 win at home against Matlock Town, attendance 161 and the winner from Blair Anderson. Q3 was a 1-3 loss at home to Vauxhall Motors, 153 on attendance and the Millers goal from Danny Elliott.

Also notable this is the first time that Carlton have made it to the 2nd qualifying round having started in the Extra Preliminary Round.

Sam tells us 2013-2014 was the last time the club reached the 2nd qualifying round , giving extra significance to Saturdays fine and indeed Historic win.

Another significant point in Sam’s report is the much lower attendances for those home games, showing the progress which has been made by the club in terms of getting more bodies through the gate.

A look at yesterdays results tells us that only Carlton and Cleethorpes appear to remain in the competition and both teams will have their League fixtures on September 16th postponed

Talking of league fixtures, both teams above the Millers in the Northern premier East League registered defeats on Saturday , the Millers remain third.
