“DARYL THOMAS DEBUT WAS MANY YEARS AGO” CHAIRMAN

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton told us today, how he was approached by a supporter at Stoke Lane during the St Neots Town Fa Trophy victory and asked who was the new striker making his debut?

‘I explained he made his debut many years ago, when I took over as Chairman, it was during Tommy’s first spell at the club and Tommy told me if he were to have a realistic chance of going up, we needed to get Phil Bignall and a very young and exciting Daryl Thomas”

“He told me, get one and we will have an excellent chance of going up, get both and I will guarantee promotion, we managed to sign both and Tommy was true to his word and their goals along with the excellent contribution of our other forward players, Mark Dickinson, Simon Newell and Danny Heverin spring to mind as being the architects of that wonderful attacking formation”

“It was of course a team effort, but that forward line with Ian White also bursting forward with a number of goals from midfield, was a frightening dynamic, but it was most certainly the signings of Phil and Daryl that got us over the line”

“Mark Harvey explained to me that one or two of our young strikers have gone out on loan to get vital game time and it is difficult to get anyone in the team ahead of Aaron, Tyler and Mamoke at the moment, so having Daryl on board gives us another option, even though I’m honestly not sure how old he is now”

“I’m sure he will update me at the next game, he’s certainly a characteristic figure and has enjoyed an outstanding career at non league level, but yes he made his debut many many years ago and definitely made his mark here”concluded the Chairman.
