MILLERS SEASON TO GO DOWN TO THE WIRE FOLLOWING 1-0 DEFEAT AT LINCOLN UNITED.

Carlton Town in effect now have 2, possibly 3 games to save their season after a narrow but definitive defeat at Lincoln United.

Lincoln took the lead with the first attack of the game and then held onto it with a determination that looks likely to keep them up, Jack Steggles in the opposing goal was rarely tested, although the Millers were disappointed not to be awarded a second half penalty.

Carlton meanwhile have had a great turnaround with 5 wins in their previous 7 games, but 2 defeats in a week has seen Carlton fall right back into the mire.

In a nutshell, Carlton need at least 4 points from their 2 games and even that will not be enough if Lincoln win or draw their final game.

Two wins from their final 2 fixtures should ensure safety with a number of clubs on 43 points, but even then, it will depend on other results.

The reality is, North Sheilds are unlikely to win their appeal against ground grading issues and if that is the case, they along with Tadcaster will be relegated, but if they were to win that appeal, Carlton could still face automatic relegation.

The more likely option following Carlton’s 1-0 defeat is that they will face a playoff game on Saturday 29th April at home that will determine which Step they will play at next season.

The 16 teams at Step 5 finishing second take on the 16 teams finishing in the 3rd and 4th bottom places in the 8 step four leagues.

A lot to take in , yes it is and it looks like being , a rollercoaster ride to the wire!

A massive thankyou to the Carlton Town fans who many believe travelled in record numbers for a league away game and they were close to 100 of them in an attendance of 281. That despite the club’s difficult season is of huge credit to them all. Support for the Millers for the game came from various parts of the country including Dorking and Manchester and the bar struggled to cope with the thirsty Millers (pictured) with huge queues developing.

One thing is certain, Tommy and Mark will be up for the fight and if they are to retain Step 4 status , the players now need to make one more big push and produce the kind of results they have achieved in recent weeks.
