FIXTURE PILE UP CONTINUES WITH STAMFORD POSTPONEMENT!

One of the main reasons Carlton were so frustrated with the Gedling Miners Welfare postponement last week, was their fear of an horrendous fixture backlog and with Stamford at home being called off this Saturday following last week’s postponement at Newcastle Town, Carlton’s fears are being realised.

Jamie Huckerby was working against the clock in getting the fence panels in place, so that Saturday’s game with Stamford could go ahead and with a forceful wind blowing and drying the pitch out, all looked positive on Friday afternoon with the 16 damaged panels replaced and the pitch playable.

At 5am on Saturday morning, the heavens opened and then some and Secretary Trevor Wells was left with no option but to call an inspection as the pitch was saturated once again.

The inevitable postponement followed and in fairness, Belper Town are in a similar situation with their game at Stocksbridge another victim of the weather and both Carlton and Belper still have 16 league games to play.

Ilkeston Town pulled off the result of the day beating league leaders Leek Town 2-0 while Cleethorpes firmed up their playoff ambitions with a thumping 5-0 win over Spalding.

As we go to press on Sunday morning, the rain pours down again and doubt must already fall on wether Stoke Lane will have dried out by Tuesday night, given there appears to be little let up.

The club will assess things over the next 24 hours and also bring news of rearranged games when the league announce them.

The Millers remain 6th in Bet Victor Division One South East and Carlton’s next league game is away next Saturday at Spalding, weather permitting of course!
