IMPRESSIVE TURN OUT FOR UKRAINE FUND RAISING AFTERNOON!
Despite the coldest day for a while, The Ukrainian community and friends turned out in decent numbers to support the “Trophy for peace”event at Stoke Lane and a crowd of over 200 supported by a number of Carlton Town supporters, made the journey down to the Bill Stokeld Staduim.
Ukraine fittingly won the tournament, beating one of the two competing English sides on penalties in the final.
Carlton Town can be proud of the role they played on the day providing their facilities and a number of members of the Carlton Town committee came down to support and help with the event, including both Chairman Mick Garton, Vice Chairman Barry North along with club secretary Trevor Wells.
John Hickling, Kelly and Tim and Gaz Bee and new joint manager Andy Clerke all played their part to with all the volunteers including the brilliant match officials, which infact included our very own Tim Bee.
Gaz Bee raised £500 with a Super Number card and donations, stalls and an impressive raffle also helped boost the total raised.
The event at the ground finished at 5pm, before moving onto the Greyfriars Club in the evening for Ukraine dancers and more fund raising and we will let everyone know the total raised when we have the figures from Taz in the coming days.
Online retail business Retro Sweet Kings which is jointly owned by Millers Chairman Mick Garton and John Hickling sponsored the event and Mick said a few words at the presentation after the game and prize draw before presenting the Man of the Match trophy with John.
Taz also revealed the scale of help being given when he revealed how many Lorry’s have been sent across to Ukraine with aid via the Charity this event is supporting , impressive indeed !
