LATE CUP FINAL DRAMA BUT IT’S NEWARK AND SHERWOOD WHO TRIUMPH!

Congratulations to Newark and Sherwood who defeated Carlton Town 3-2 in the Final of The Nottinghamshire Senior Cup at Eastwood CFC.

Both teams took excellent support to the final and The Millers fans are pictured enjoying a pre match pint in Eastwood.

Carlton started badly and a rare mistake from Khyle Sargent led to Newark’s opener. It wasn’t long before they added a second and should have had a third, but Mikey saved a penalty to keep Carlton in the game.

Two down at half time and Carlton had to improve in the second period and they did, but Newark got bodies behind the ball and looked dangerous on the break.

Nat Watson should have scored with one great chance and then did score to give Carlton late hope, but a second penalty for Newark in the 89th minute looked to have put the game to bed, but Carlton through Dean Freeman scored again and the were denied what looked a stonewall penalty in stoppage time.

It was not to be this year and while 12 months ago Carlton were celebrating winning the Trophy, this year it was Newark and Sherwood’s turn for the first time and the Carlton players and managers generously applauded the opposition as they lifted the Trophy in front of their joyous fans.

Although obviously disappointed to have not retained the trophy and not to got the late penalty , joint manager Tommy Brookbanks praised Newark and Sherwood in his post match interview with Carlton Town Tv.
