LOVELY AND MOVING TRIBUTE AFTERNOON FOR BRIAN AT STOKE LANE !
Perhaps the best way to sum up this event, was the fact that two supporters from Sheffield Fc came down the motorway to pay their respects for the great but sadly late Brian Dennett.
Ex Senior Cup winning Millers manager Wayne Scott was another who came along to pay his respects along with Club Legend Grant Brindley and a number of supporters, players and Commitee members and even sponsors.
They joined Brian’s family who were welcomed into the Howard Mitchell Sportsbar to the Carlton Town Matchday running out music bang on 3pm.
Speeches from President Roger Smith, Player coach Darryl Thomas, Supporters Club chief Alan Murphy and Councillor Paul Wilkinson followed a moving video put together by Neil Ward.
A moving response followed from Alex Dennett and the family were clearly and understandly emotional by what was uncovering in front of them.
The congregation then moved outside and Brian’s best friend at the club, Phil Jennings and 3 Academy players were on hand to unveil the signage kindly donated by AR Signs.
Photos were taken by Lou, before the family moved into the suite where a lovely plaque was unveiled by first team players, Dan Brown, Jack Steggles, Martin Ball and Darryl Thomas pictured in our cover photo next to the Plaque.
Time for a bite to eat and one or two stories that probably couldn’t be told on camera, most of them focussed on Brian’s driving and people’s cars that may or may not have been hit over the years.
It was a lovely afternoon indeed, a nice turnout, a cracking little buffet and eventually some football on the numerous TVs , hopefully he was looking down, he would have been proud and we were all proud of him, RIP BRIAN !
