MILLERS REMEMBER THEIR UKRAINE FRIENDS FROM 2009!

Thirteen years ago, teams from various parts of the world arrived at Stoke Lane for The International Ukrainian Football Tournament, there was an opening ceremony, a closing ceremony and in between some cracking football matches and some of the biggest crowds ever seen at Stoke Lane and the beer and vodka sales were pretty good too.

Local security company Trident sponsored the tournament and Managing Director Roman became a friend of the club, he last year made a donation to the big Charity football match with World Game Changers.

Last night after Carlton had concluded their own successful fund raising initiatives at the sold out John O’Hare evening , Boatsy and the Chairman asked for one last favour as the club wanted to do something to contribute to the food parcels, going to Poland on the border of Ukraine to help feed those fleeing the horrendous Russian invasion of their homeland. Many of those parcels have been sent from Nottingham through Roman and Trident.

Boxing world Champion Leigh Wood had sent two signed gloves to the Millers, ahead of his own defence of his WBA title at Nottingham Arena and was delighted to hear one of them had been raffled off to raise money for Ukraine and sent a lovely text message which was revealed by Chairman Mick Garton to the audience.

Initially the raffle raised £335 from those guests remaining, with many putting in more than the asked for £10, further late donations during the evening took the total up to £485 and the club have rounded that up to £500.

Roman sent a message to Carlton Town on Saturday morning saying it meant a lot and asked us to thank everyone for their support,

£500 in the bigger picture may not seem a lot of money, but it was something done at the last minute and if it helps provide food and provisions for some of the people suffering, that has to be a good thing and the club is open to do more going forward if it can help in anyway this website understands.

The club will post details of Romans appeal on the Carlton Town Football Club Facebook page and show pictures of the aid arriving at its destination where possible.

Councillor Nicki Brookes, a big friend of the club is pictured after winning the draw for the Leigh Wood signed glove and John O’ Hare kindly presented her with it.
