NARROW DEFEAT FOR MILLERS ON TOUGH THURSDAY NIGHT V LIVERSAGE

The wind howled, the rain came down and the Millers playing their 3rd game in 5 days were cheered on by about 40 supporters in an attendance of just 92, but saw their team be defeated this time by Liversage at Ossett United.

A narrow defeat it was, but the bigger concern for Tommy and Mark will be the injury count as one or two players clearly picked up knocks and one or two were out on their feet, given how many games they have played in the last couple of weeks.

Despite the 2-1 defeat,  Carlton put in a decent display and both keepers were stars in an entertaining game in difficult conditions.

With the score at 1-1 midway through the second half, a pivotal moment occurred, Alex Hardwick unleashed a thunderbolt that hit the underside of the bar and miraculously came back out instead of going in and minutes later, Liversage scored a cracking goal themselves on the break, although the Millers thought they should have had a foul at the other end went Niall Davie went down prior to the breakaway, the decision did not go their way and the Millers were 2-1 down.

Carlton had enough chances themselves to have at least come away with a point, but it was not to be and credit to Liversage who played some decent football themselves and held out at the end as the Millers pressed for the equaliser.

Liversage have had a good season against the Millers doing the double, but it’s Carlton who still have a decent chance of claiming a playoff spot, although they still have more to do and Consett on Saturday at Stoke Lane now takes on extra significance indeed,

Carlton remain 5th in the Northern Premier East league, while Hebburn moved to the top of the table tonight after beating Ashington 4-1 and are now favourites to win the league with a one point lead and a game in hand over second placed Stockton, who had led the table for the majority of this season.

Chairman Mick Garton was on Media duties for the club and managed to catch up with Tommy Brookbanks in the howling wind, which gives those not in attendance an idea of the night’s conditions, for a quick word for Carlton Town Tv after the narrow Thursday night defeat.
