NEW SIGNINGS AND A SPECIAL LETTER FROM THE UKRAINE COMMUNITY!

Carlton Town were busy on social media yesterday with 3 new signings comfirmed ahead of the new season.

Centre Half Dean freeman, goalkeeper Michael Emery and midfielder Kyle Tomlin were all comfirmed on our Twitter account and have been well received.

Todays early news is not about a new signing, but something the club have done in the local community and the Chairman has subsequently received the following letter.

Dear Mick,

I wanted to write a letter of thanks to everybody at Carlton Town FC to express my gratitude for allowing us to host the Trident FC vs Greyfriars FC fundraising game at The Bill Stokeld Stadium on Sunday 1st May 2022.

Carlton Town has a long affinity with the Ukrainian community having hosted the International Ukrainian Football Tournament in 2009. It was the ideal venue for us to host this game to raise awareness and funds for Ukraine.

I’m pleased to tell you that the day was a resounding success . Approximately 350 people attended the game and through donations on the gate, the raffle, the sale of Ukrainian Borsht and the glitter art stand we raised in excess of £3,500 at Stoke Lane ! I would like to thank yourself, Jamie and the rest of the Carlton Town staff for making the day run as smoothly possible and for helping promote the event in the lead up to the day.

The match was followed by an evening of Irish and Ukrainian entertainment at Greyfriars, which included a charity auction. I would also like to place on record a thankyou to Carlton Town sponsors MSR Newsgroup, Carlton Town Commercial Manager Gary Clarke and Carlton Town season ticket holder Graham Barker who all contributed items to the auction. The evening raised over £11,000, bringing the total amount raised on the day to £14,632.75 !

The figures raised on the day were far and beyond what I expected to raise. Originally I had hoped to split the funds raised between two causes, however, due to the success of the day I have already been able to make significant donations to four organisations: Aid for Ukraine, Come Back Alive, United Ukraine Fellowship and Ukraine Aid Ops.

Carlton Town is renowned for its work within the local community and you can be sure the Ukrainian Community will never forget those who stood shoulder to shoulder with us and helped us in our darkest hours. The football club should be proud of its efforts in supporting Ukraine.

Tens of thousands of Ukrainians have been killed by the Russian invaders. Soldiers, civilians, men, women and children continue to suffer every day. As the war dops off the front pages I ask that Carlton Town and your amazing fanbase keep up raising awareness of what Is happening and continue to help where you can.

I wish you all the best for the new  season and hope to see you all soon at Stoke Lane soon.

Slava Ukraini !

Taras Postolan (Taz)
