NEW YEAR THRILLER AT STOKE LANE AND 3 VITAL POINTS FOR THE MILLERS!

A crowd of 184 saw in the first New year fixture of 2022 and they were not left disappointed, following a hum dinger of a game that had quality moments, scrappy moments, a missed penalty again from Carlton and a sending off for Daventry.

Carlton badly needed a win after a defeat and 2 draws from their last 3 games, but were made to work hard to gain it by their excellent opponents.

Jack Bowen gave the visitors a deserved lead before the Millers strung into life, but Tyler Blake became the latest Miller to miss a penalty following a handball, with Tom Maddison on the bench

Nat Watson did however score the equaliser soon after with a fine far post finish before Kyle Sargent gave the Millers the lead with a brilliant finish after good work by Tyler Blake.

Back came Daventry two minutes later with a fine finish from George Ball beating Keiran Preston to make it 2-2.

In the second half , Carlton started on the front foot after what we imagine were strong words from Tommy Brookbanks at half time and fantastic work from Arron Opoku at the byline set up Tyler Blake for a close finish to make it 3-2.

Daventry were still a threat and Tommy freshened things up with three changes quite early in the second half.

A blantant foul with Blake set to go through on goal saw Daventry captain Ross Harris given a straight red card, Blake also went on to hit the woodwork and this website understands that votes for man of the match were mainly between the on fire Tyler and the outstanding Danny Elliot.

Carlton were delighted to hear the final whistle and secure the 3 points and it was fantastic to see long standing supporter Sam Hodkin, who still does the stats for the supporters website back at the Bill Stokeld stadium for the New Year’s Day clash.

Millers Chairman Mick Garton caught up with Sam at the final whistle for Carlton Town Tv and that interview can be seen on the link below.

Striker Arron Opoku also made a point of giving up considerable time after the game to chat with the ever popular Sam. The two of them are pictured!

Jon Bryson caught up with Tommy Brookbanks after the game ended and his interview is also on the link below!

Carlton remain 7th, but are now only 1 point outside the playoffs after other results went in favour of the Millers today, at least in some instances.

Paul Lowe said his Grandson Archie had a great day and would definitely be back to take up the mascot package again , so it proved a good day all round.

A big thankyou to Paul , a massive friend of the club, to President Roger Smith for his very special Pheasant Stew and to the players for 3 points, that was the best New Years present of all for the Millers faithful.
