NEWS UPDATE FROM STOKE LANE WITH PLENTY GOING ON AS CHAIRMAN GIVES US STATEMENT !

We caught up with Carlton Chairman Mick Garton who was at the ground this evening watching the Academy take on Notts County’s youngsters in a pre season friendly in pouring rain which finished 2-2.

Garton wanted first of all to pay tribute to one of the best guest speakers the club had ever at the ground who sadly passed away today aged only 59.

“I was absolutely gutted when Greg Last text me today to tell me Dean Jones (pictured in our Clubhouse in 2009) had died, he was one of the few guest speakers I kept in touch with after his night at the club”

“He shared a car with me home, stopping till the bitter end of a Thursday evening Speakers event some 10 or so years ago and we spoke on the phone at least twice after that, he invited me out for a drink when he was in the country a few years later covering international Cricket, but I was away at the time and sadly when I was in London during the same year , I rung him but he was doing a Speakers engagement and I never did meet him again, but he was a top top bloke as Greg remembered today”

“Stuart Scott has also been in touch with me sharing his memories of that cracking night and if anyone as any photos, we would be grateful to see them”

“I am pleased to report we finished the Juniors five a side area this week and they are now using that as it is now officially open and I would like to thank in particular, Dan for all his work on this ably assisted by Wally and Jamie and of course this would not have been possible without the funding obtained for the most part by my close friend Dave Hodgson”

“I can confirm further work has this week taken place on the main pitch in an attempt to keep it at the standards required by Tommy and Mark and that the club is ensuring further Covid 19 measures are put in place following the gloomy address to the nation from Boris Johnson this week”

“I can confirm the club raised £1,670 from the third kit Superdraw and I would like to thank everyone who took part both selling envelopes and buying them, this sort of fund raising is one of the few ways we can raise money at the moment given the prime Ministers address the other evening, I knew after his speech that we would have to cancel our Firework Extravaganza and there could still be other planned events that sadly fall by the wayside”

“Finally I would like to thank everyone who attended the first two games at Stoke Lane this season, the cup win and the Lincoln league defeat, the atmosphere as been electric with gates pushing towards 200 and it is fantastic that supporters are responding to what we are trying to do, keeping the squad together, putting money into the infrastructure, putting Sky Sports back into the Clubhouse and introducing the first ever happy hour, putting in a guest Ale, inviting a Junior side as our special guests and improving the Matchday programme, expect more of the same going forward”
