PROMOTION DREAM OVER FOR ANOTHER YEAR AFTER NARROW DEFEAT AT DUNSTON
Carlton’s fantastic 15 game unbeaten run came to and end last week as they were beaten by League Champions Cleethorpes Town and this week it was second placed Dunston who got the better of the Millers by an odd goal in a 2-1 win which cemented their place in the playoffs.
Carlton are obviously disappointed they could not at least have taken it to the last game, but it has been another extremely positive campaign for the Stoke Lane side, with only a disappointing November halting their progress.
Even if the Millers, backed up by another fine away following in the North East had achieved a positive result at Dunston, results had gone against them elsewhere with wins for Stocksbridge, Emley Fc and Newton Aycliffe this weekend.
Skipper Niall Davie (pictured) scored the Millers goal in the narrow defeat and the Millers are hoping they can sign off their home fixtures with a convincing display against Sherwood Colliery on Easter Monday at Stoke Lane.
Sherwood have suffered relegation this season, but have proved tricky opposition for the Millers so far during this campaign, knocking them out of the Senior Cup and then defeating them on Boxing Day in the reverse league fixture in Mansfield.
Please come and support the Millers on Easter Monday and show your appreciation for a decent season indeed, the Millers may have fell just short of the playoffs this time round, but it has certainly not been through a lack of endeavour.
Carlton look likely to be in the Midlands league next season according to the latest projections, but who they will be up against remains to be seen.
Basford United and Mickleover have been relegated from the Premier Division, Matlock in an even bigger shock looked likely to be relegated, Eastwood could still win their league at step five and if not are certainly in the playoffs.
In the current Midlands league, Grantham Town have been relegated, Long Eaton United look likely to be in the playoffs.
There really is so many permatations, speculation is pointless, but one thing is for certain, local football at steps three, four and five is alive and kicking and the Millers have been very much part of that story.
We hope to see you all on Monday !
