SATURDAY 19TH JUNE LOOKS SET TO BE THE DATE FOR REMEMBRANCE AND A CELEBRATION OF BRIAN’S LIFE ANNOUNCES CLUB !

Brian Dennett’s funeral provided a fitting send off for a true legend of the club this afternoon at St Paul’s Church in Carlton.

Members of the Carlton Town faithful along with management, players , Commitee, family and friends of the great man gathered at the Bill Stokeld Stadium from 11.30am to form a guard of honour as the Hearse pulled into the stadium at just after Midday to give Brian one final view of the pitch.

It was an excellent turnout at the ground  and great to see former manager Wayne Scott and goalkeeping coach Kelvin among those coming to pay their respects.

The funeral was streamed live with Covid 19 restrictions meaning only 30 could attend and we understand over 100 people watched on line. The link below at the bottom of this article plays back the service and there will be an edited version later which will include the drive through at the ground which Jamie Huckerby has already put out on Twitter.

This will be available on you tube in the next couple of days under the search heading of ‘John Brian Dennett’

After the service, Brian’s son Alex passed Chairman Mick Garton a message from Brian, which he must have written during his final days saying how between them, they had shared some great ideas and other nice words, which the Chairman is immensely grateful for, the note finished by saying “Take care Mick, please continue working for the cause”

Mick will read this out at the memorial and celebration which we tonight comfirm is set to take place on the afternoon of Saturday 19th June at the ground, where various people will have the opportunity to speak and everyone will be welcome to come and pay their respects.

The date is provisional at this stage but is expected to be comfirmed in the coming days but the club has every intention of putting on something very special.

There were some fine speeches at the funeral and many laughs as well as tears and a fitting final whistle was blown by Charlotte Wilson his beloved Granddaughter to bring the service to a close.

Brian’s son Alex also spoke of his final Just giving fund raiser which smashed its target of £500 and which now stands at an amazing £780.

The event at the ground on Saturday 19th June will also see the Academy Suite named in his honour with sign writers AR Signs providing the signage free of charge, such was their respect for Brian.
