TEMPEST AND NANGLE SEE MILLERS HOME IN FIESTY ENCOUNTER AT STOKE LANE!

Carlton Town followed up their excellent second half display on Saturday by beating Quorn Afc in the Fa Cup replay to earn a home time in the next round against either Maltby Main or Pinchbeck United who will battle out their replay on Wednesday evening.

Carlton have gone with a younger team this season with more pace and energy and Quorn often had to retreat to last ditch fouls as the Millers pressed for goals. One of those last ditch fouls saw a free kick opportunity for former Notts County youngster Greg Tempest on the edge of the box and he didn’t disappoint with a superb finish to give the Millers the lead.

Carlton continued to press after their opener and a Nangle header gave Carlton a 2 goal cushion going in at the break.

Quorn upped the anti in the second half to try and get back into the game, but Brown and Freeman were solid in central defence and goalkeeper Felix made an outstanding save when called upon.

Carlton were still threatening going forward and the Carlton management felt the match officials were too lenient with one or two heavy challenges as Carlton threatened to get a third on the break.

Quorn pressed to get back in the game and on another day could well have got a goal back and made it a nervous last period for the Millers, but Carlton were resolute and saw out the game, despite Tommy being sent to the stand after objecting to another heavy challenge , which the Carlton dugout certainly felt was not correctly punished.

Quorn have proved a good first test for the Millers in what will often be a fiesty season with some testing visits to the North East ahead.

Greg Tempest’s superb free kick is well worth a watch , so keep your eyes pinned for that goal and more coverage in the next 24 hours.
