Carlton Continue Strong League Form With Away Win At Keyworth Black

Carlton Town Lions managed to continue their 100% record in the league, coming out 4-1 winners away to a tough Keyworth Black side.

Once again, the match was impacted by the elements, with a strong wind making it tricky for both sides. Carlton had the wind behind them in the first half and took advantage of it. After a shaky first 20 minutes, the Lions managed to control possession and the game more effectively with some impressive combination play. The opening goal came from Joel Daft, who used the strong wind to help bend the ball into the goal directly from a corner. Carlton saw this as their chance to push on, and on the half-hour mark, Aaron Wainaina finished a well worked move to give the team a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Aaron Wainaina got the second of the game and his 7th of the season in an impressive performance.

With the wind favouring Keyworth in the second half, Carlton struggled to play with the same quality and Keyworth put good pressure on the team. After a penalty was awarded for a foul in the box, Keyworth found themselves right in the game at 2-1 down with 25 minutes to play. It could have been a very nervy ending to the game, but a penalty of our own scored by Sonny Shaw gave us breathing space, before Jack Cockram closed down and nicked the ball off their goalkeeper with only a few minutes left to score and finish the game as a contest.

It is the second time we have played Keyworth Black this year, having beaten them 3-1 in the cup earlier in the season. Both games have been very competitive and have been high quality. We look forward to hosting them for the final time in the league later on in the season.
