Carlton Lose in the Quater-Final of the Cup

Carlton Lost 4-1 To An Impressive Pinxton Side In the Quarter-Final of the Notts U18 Sunday Cup.

The tie between the two teams was highly anticipated, with both teams having a 100% winning record so far this season. Carlton were depleted due to players being unavailable or injured and with no recognised goalkeeper in the squad, Lewis Erasmus stepped up for the team and put in a really strong performance in goal.

It was quite an even start as both teams tried to adjust to the blustery conditions. After 20 minutes, Pinxton started to control territory and were consistently forcing Carlton’s defence deeper. Carlton almost managed to get in to half-time at 0-0, but two quick-fire goals put them in a strong position going into the break.

Needing to respond, the Lions had a more attacking formation in the second-half, but it was Pinxton who managed to score the crucial third goal of the game. The team responded well and finally found some rhythm in our passing. Carlton managed to get the breakthrough when Kyle Fawsitt joined the attack from midfield and slotted the ball through defenders to find the bottom corner. It gave Carlton a lifeline with 20 minutes to go. The team started to apply good pressure and almost got back into the game with a corner which was cleared off the line following a goalmouth scramble. Unfortunately, Pinxton sealed the game with a counter-attack, ruthlessly finishing a flowing move to conclude the scoring.

Lewis Erasmus pulled off a string of excellent saves in goal.

It was a disappointing result for the team and we were not at our best, but Pinxton deserved to go through and will pose a tough test for whichever team they draw in the semi-final. It is the first loss of the season for the Lions, so it is important to respond with a quality performance in our next fixture against Keyworth Black.

There was a fantastic turnout of friends and family, so a massive thank you goes out to everyone who came down to support the team.
