Lions Through To The Last 16 of The Sunday Cup

The Lions cruise through to the next round of the cup with a commanding win at home against Netherfield.

For the first time in 5 weeks, the weather was kind enough to enable the match to go ahead. It was brilliant seeing the team playing again and enjoying their football.

Netherfield opened the scoring after 10 minutes, with the Lions too passive defensively. It was exactly the start the team did not want, but they quickly managed to turn it around and take control. A first half hat-trick from Jack Cockram (his second in successive games), a brace from Dan Flint and a first goal of the season for Finn Martin ensured the team were in a very strong position, with a 6-1 lead at half-time. There were some excellent pieces of play and some fantastic goals scored.

The second half saw the team adopt a new formation, seizing the opportunity to try and work on different systems and player combinations. It was once again a very impressive half of football, with Jack Cockram getting his fourth, before Ellis Tongue and Dan Flint secured their hat-tricks.  2 goals from Zindan Salih and Jake Putnar completed the scoring to round off a well deserved 14-1 victory.

A lot of credit has to go to Netherfield, who kept going throughout the match and played the game with excellent sportsmanship and integrity.

This result sees the Lions through to the last 16 of the cup, where we will play at home against Sherwood Colliery at a date that is yet to be confirmed.
